Following on from ‘adult’ things you can’t do, what ‘adult’ things are you FABULOUS at?

LellyMcKelly · 07/07/2019 23:17

(Lighthearted - and not rude)

In a recent threat we discussed the ‘adult’ things we can’t do (for me it’s gardening), so I thought it would be nice to celebrate the things we are brilliant at and take pleasure in(even the small things). I am brilliant at:

Making omelettes
Pairing socks
Throwing away stuff I don’t need anymore.

What about you?

Asking questions, apparently. I rarely feel awkward in conversation.

Fantail · 08/07/2019 07:45

Kit set furniture assembly and kids birthday cakes. This year year DD8 got a golden snitch.

RockinHippy · 08/07/2019 07:49

I can turn a bit of cloth into anything, from scratching without patterns, as I can make that from scratch too if I need.

I can make & decorate impressive occasion cakes

MissMogwai · 08/07/2019 07:53

I make a fantastic Carbonara and a superb potato hash.

I'm very good at listening to teenage issues and offering advice without killing anyone or going mad.

I'm good at painting not so good at papering.

I'm a great one for lists.

I'm brilliant at colouring hair except my own.

FunnyHappyGirl · 08/07/2019 07:55

I am a whizz with the electric hedge trimmer and cut a mean bush! 😜 (an actual outside garden one obvs). My DP has finally acknowledged I'm better at it than him so is now on de-weed and clear up duty behind me!

ChihuahuaMummy1 · 08/07/2019 08:07

I can:
Make a decent white sauce
Multi task
Cook to a good standard

I cant:
Change a plug
Wallpaper a room
Have a new crockery set without breaking some

SnowsInWater · 08/07/2019 08:11

Planning/booking holidays
Staying on top of school admin

I'm shit at most of the useful stuff unfortunately.

BalonzZofloraHernandez · 08/07/2019 08:14

I can service a car (oil change, spark plugs, filters etc)
I make really good poached eggs
I have a range of 'funny voices' when reading bedtime stories
I can do accents and impressions
I'm an excellent driver
(Admittedly niche) Give me any woody shrub from a garden centre and I can prune it so it looks like a convincing bonsai tree Blush

Eminado · 08/07/2019 08:23

Heads over to the other thread... Blush

Ragwort · 08/07/2019 08:28

Getting up early, cooking (although it bores me), organising children’s parties, volunteering, making small talk, hosting (although equally fed up with that after years of entertaining) .... can’t think of much else Grin. Can easily make an omelette but can’t understand my iPhone (thinking of the tech thread).

Trooperslaneagain · 08/07/2019 08:38

All the house admin
Super organised in general - great at planning
I can always see the bottom of my washing basket
Getting up early
Cooking/meal planning
I'm told I'm a great friend and a great mother
Being kind/thoughtful
Remembering birthdays etc.

(I'm sounding totally up my own arse!)

Ratonastick · 08/07/2019 09:04

I am wicked at parking. I drive a fairly unusual and quite big sports car and I can parallel park or reverse park in one go every time. And I must confess that that I never feel like more of a feminist than when I have its bonnet up, even if it’s for something mundane like washer fluid.

Lastbustowhitehawk · 08/07/2019 09:28

Cooking nutritious meals (despite being partial to the odd Domino's feast)

Hosting. Growing up we were never allowed friends round so I love having people over and making sure friends and family are fed and watered.

I give good advice and think I make my friends feel secure. When something dreadful happened to one of our friends, she came straight to me and DH and stayed for a couple of days. We listened to her, gave her a blanket in the best spot on the sofa and hopefully made a horrible time a bit easier. I was a bit chaotic in my early twenties and am proud that I can be a bit of a haven for other people now.

I'm not great at dusting or fixing things though so it's swings and roundabouts!

KnifeAngel · 08/07/2019 10:26

Driving and parallel parking. There are hardly any spaces here so you have to get in really tight spaces.

Finding places. I don't usually need a map or satnav.

I remember the birthday's and telephone numbers of everyone I know.

I know all the events on at the school and remember the dates. I am the parent other parents ask what is going on.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 08/07/2019 10:41

I am brilliant at noting people's likes and preferences and then coming up with amazing presents for Birthdays and Christmases.

I am equally good at remembering the dates too, without needing a FB prompt for it.

TheJoxter · 08/07/2019 10:44

Ooh I thought of another one, I’m really good at getting people thoughtful presents that they’ll actually use and enjoy

gotmychocolateimgood · 08/07/2019 10:46

I'm awesome at teaching children to sing. Give me a primary school hall full of 100s of kids and I'll get them singing Who Put the Colours in the Rainbow 🌈🎶

WarmSausageTea · 08/07/2019 11:30

Planning and booking holidays. (Apart from the Bratislava/Belgrade cock-up Blush )
Making tea.
Ironing.

Cooking is my downfall. I’m not good at it, and I don’t enjoy it (even if it’s gone well) and DP loves it, even the everyday stuff, so I’ve no incentive to persevere/improve.

HippyTrails · 08/07/2019 11:35

I can pull off a fantastic fun Christmas
not caring about pairing socks
driving

PastaSauceHoarder · 08/07/2019 11:53

I throw a lovely party, we have a summer one and a Christmas one every year. Smile

I'm ace at planning and buying presents, especially for the children of the family. I'm a good bargain finder too.

My keep my house lovely and tidy, despite having a two year old - I get lots of compliments on my lovely house! Grin

My brownies are awesome, though I only really make them on Halloween. 👻

LettuceBeFree · 08/07/2019 16:21

@Piffpaffpoff Any tips on the parallel parking? :)

Piffpaffpoff · 08/07/2019 16:34

Hard to give tips because it’s just second nature to me now! Erm, always reverse in, lower your passenger side mirror so you can see where you are in relation to the kerb and just aim to get the back of your car lined up with the car behind, as soon as you have that then start straightening up.

Or, do what I did and live on a street with hardly any parking for a few years - that’s how I (had to) learn.

ChiefPotterer · 08/07/2019 18:04

Cheeky request but can I please request the amazing brownie recipe and the salted caramel sauce one, both mentioned upthread?

ChiefPotterer · 08/07/2019 18:08

If I was on radio 4 Just a Minute I would be getting buzzed for repetition of the word request in my last post, apologies!

digdug · 08/07/2019 18:10

Cake decorating.

Gardening.
