PPI claims

Just wondering if anyone have used a company to do a PPI claim.
We were planning to do this ourselves but are really running out of time now.
Looking at the online forms on the Money Saving Expert we really need to know a lot more details then we have to hand. We looked on Experian but it only goes back 6 years.
Obviously I have had many cold-calls offering a service, but am afraid to get a dodgy one.
So please let me know if you could recommend anyone

Go through resolver on mse. They got me £3380 back and a lot of my answers were "not known" Confused

I submitted the form thinking "no chance" but it's far better than paying some firm 25% of your claim.

EatingBreadAndHoney thank you that sounds promising

You don’t need the details. Where it asks for an account number write ‘ALL’ I got an extra £600 as it means they must look up all accounts. If there is anything you don’t know on the forms just write unknown. This is exactly what these companies do and take 30%+. I had no details so I wrote to them with my name and address details saying I believe I was mis-sold ppi, I had no info as I had lost all my paperwork. I looked up each companies pup address and sent letters to them all. I got £3k back with no info and no need to use the rip-off companies.

DuchessSybilVimes · 07/07/2019 17:50

That's really interesting, like, what's a pup address? And what did you say in your letter?

Likethebattle · 07/07/2019 18:26

Oops sorry ‘ppi address’ bloody autocorrect. Just I had a loan/credit card account and believe i was mis- sold ppi. I gave my name and address details atbtge time and anything else I could remember. The bank called me to ask some details and i told them I wasn’t told it was optional and I was under the impression I had to have it to get the loan. If you give them an account number they will simply look up one account, if you write ‘all’ they have to bring up all accounts. The onus is on them and not you’d. Write the letters, google ‘company name ppi’ send the letter and you should get a generic form. Just wrote in everything you remember and if you don’t know just write ‘unknown’ and again write ’ALL’ where it asks for account details.

I did it myself too on mse, the only information I was sure of was the address, they did the rest and I ended up with 3k, dh got 7k.

TheQueef · 07/07/2019 18:33

Honest just do resolver.
It's so easy it's worth sending off speculative emails to any financial institution you can remember ever dealing with.
Try it and come back, tell us what you get!

LoubyLou1234 · 07/07/2019 18:35

I did mine myself but it was with egg who were no longer around officially but I wrote to them and filled in some forms and got £11k back and it was all mine and not a percentage for a company. Very simple.

I’m feeling really pleased for everyone who have succeeded by doing the claims themselves but I’m feeling quite sick at the thought that DH and I have gone with The Claims Guys and, if successful, will have to pay them 24% of any payout!! ☹️☹️ We decided to use a company just because we have a lot of ill health and stress in the family and thought a third party could take some of the strain from us. But hearing how simple it seems to be, I wish we’d opted to do it ourselves. We could really do without paying 24% of any sum as we’re also struggling with huge debts.

TheQueef · 07/07/2019 19:02

I never had PPI I'm a committed obsessive terms and conditions reader but I've used resolver three times.
A family friend ex co worke of my Ddad got over £20k as did my pal!
My old boss from the chippy only got £3k.
It's very very straightforward.
All you need to know is the bank name, where you live/lived and your name.
Doooo it!

Likethebattle · 07/07/2019 19:23

@Tarchie all that company will do is fill out the standard form and write unknown where needed. They don’t have anymore information than you.

Fluffycloudland77 · 07/07/2019 20:15

Most banks/lenders have a form in their website.

Most of our answers were can’t remember or don’t know.

TheQueef · 07/07/2019 20:17

As a PP said in the account number box write all and don't forget store cards etc.

DivisionBelles · 07/07/2019 20:25

Use Resolver. So easy. I got nearly 6k back. All I needed was my name and address. Didn't even know that account numbers for some. Don't forget that if you weren't misold, you may still be able to claim under the Plevin ruling. Look on moneysavingexpert.com

PippiDeLena · 07/07/2019 21:23

@LoubyLou1234

How did you reclaim your Egg PPI? I had an Egg card, but obviously they are kaput now.

Meercat2 · 07/07/2019 22:21

Thank you all. After all your suggestions we will definitely don't ourselves now. Fingers crossed...
