Do you weight less than 11stone, and are around 5’6” or less

If so what do you eat in a day?

I ask as I’ve got around 15kg to lose to get back to what my “target” weight should be.

Ps: this is not a thread about peddling diets, disordered eating etc, I’m just interested.

I'm 5'6". I weigh 6st 4oz. I am skinny.
Today I ate a full English breakfast, a few biscuits with coffee mid morning, my coffee has brown sugar and cream in it. I drink numerous cups a day.
A roast dinner at lunch followed with home made trifle.
2 cheese rolls and a packet of crisps at tea time.
A sausage roll and a packet of mini cheddars this evening.
I've just had a ham roll and a slice of chocolate cake.
A few rum and coke were drank this evening with a bar of rum and raising chocolate.
I am 56.

DogbertDogglesworth · 08/07/2019 01:19

On a normal day I don't eat breakfast, but have 3 creamed, sugared coffees.
I don't have a roast dinner during the week, I just have what I fancy for lunch.

OP can I suggest you look at the eatwell plate and ignore more than half the replies here? Everyone’s metabolism is different and you get used to your usual mix of foods and the total amount of them

Just grab what you eat now for a meal and change the ratios around, fill your plate up with the carbs and veg whilst minimising the cheese/meats

JonnyPocketRocket · 08/07/2019 01:31

I'm 5'6" and weigh 9 stone 2lbs. On an average day I would eat something like:
06.30: 2 slices toast with scrambled egg or avocado or peanut butter and jam. A banana. A yogurt.
Noon: Piece of fruit or chocolate bar or mini babybel.
16.00: Sandwich or salad or leftovers from last night's dinner. Piece of fruit. Yogurt or crisps or crudites and hummus.
21.30: Hot dinner (lasagne / curry / stew / shepherd's pie / pizza / whatever), usually with salad. Maybe a scoop of ice cream or similar.
I think I do eat quite a lot, and it includes too much sugar, which is a work in progress. But I walk a 2 miles most days as part of my commute, and spend much of my workday on my feet. Once a week or so I cycle half an hour each way to work. When I was growing up I wasn't allowed to diet - and my mother has never been on a diet either; she brought us up to eat a bit of everything and stay active.

firstimemamma · 08/07/2019 02:24

5 ft 6 inches 8 and 3/4 stone

Breakfast:
Healthy cereal e.g. bran flakes and whole milk
Toast and jam or marmite with butter (not spread)
Or...
porridge with fruit

Dinner examples:
Tuna mayo sandwich
Or...
jacket potato (sometimes 2 depending on size) and a healthy filling
Or....
some sort of pasta dish
Or...
Eggs, toast, avocado mayo

Tea:
Typical family cooking! Examples: chilli con carne, salmon with rice and veg, homemade pork burgers and chips. Sweet potato is a staple and I don't eat low fat versions of anything. Cook with rapeseed oil.

Quite big portion sizes. Love mayo. Snack on fruit or unsalted nuts. Mainly whole milk but sometimes semi-skimmed. Drink loads of water (they key to good health imo) and 3-4 cups of tea daily, occasionally one coffee. Loads of brisk walking with buggy but before baby loved running.

I'm currently breastfeeding so also snack on toast / cereal to tide me over. Also pre-bf I always had toast or cereal, rarely both and would never have had 2 JPs but I'm all about the calories at the minute! Chocolate once a week. I'll only ever snack on biscuits etc if ds has had a crap night. Take-aways not often at all maybe once every couple of months.

Hope this has helped. Everything in moderation Smile

5ft 6 and about 8.5 stone last time I got weighed about a year ago .
Always eat breakfast - toast , jam. Yoghurt and fruits in summer as well .
Often buy a hot chocolate and a fruit muffin at work .
Sandwich for lunch .
After school snack as I make for kids crackers, cheese , biscuits .
Dinner - Lots of chicken , veg , carbs , with fish and red meat about twice a week.
Beer and wine with meals .
So normal food, no diets .

Sometimes I skip lunch if I’m busy , probably twice a week.

voxnihili · 08/07/2019 06:40

I'm 5.6 and exactly 8 stone. 3 years ago I was 11 stone. I didn't diet but looked at portion sizes and started exercising 5 days a week for about 40 minutes.

I'd been eating more than double what I should be. A typical day for me now is cereal for breakfast (probably about a 75g portion as 30g would barely feed a sparrow), mid morning snack of approx 100 calories, lunch of approx 500 calories and then dinner. Dinners are usually some form of carb, meat and veg combination but for the carb I usually have half the recommended portion. I don't have any foods that I don't eat because they're unhealthy - I just watch the portion size. I also walk on average 5K every day.

It took me 18 months to go from 11 stone to 8.5. I then became pregnant but kept up the portion control and exercise and weighed less than I did before my 'diet' the day my daughter was born. It took approx 2 months to lose the baby weight using this regime.

Friends of mine are dieting trying to lose the baby weight and it's not working as they deny themselves the food they want and then binge on it. I'd really recommend looking at how much you're eating as that way you don't have to cut anything out.

BazaarMum · 08/07/2019 09:19

vox by those statistics you are under weight? You sound like you have a healthy attitude to food in general but half the recommended portion doesn’t sound like enough.

I’m an inch taller than you and even at 8st 12lb people were telling me I looked far too thin. I’d be skin and bones at 8st!

romany4 · 08/07/2019 10:45

I'm 5ft 5. Weigh 8st 2. I am 47

Breakfast is porridge oats with semi skimmed.
Lunch usually a tuna or chicken sandwich.
Dinner is plain meat or fish with vegetables.

I have IBS so can't eat any fried or fatty food, any fruit, eggs and limited dairy or I get a flare up. I don't drink or smoke. I also don't eat any sweets, biscuits or cakes but I don't have a sweet tooth anyway. If I want a snack, I do eat crisps occasionally.
I do yoga and Pilates every week and also am on my feet all day for work

voxnihili · 08/07/2019 11:19

@BazaarMum - technically I'm underweight but I have a tiny frame. Although I'm a size 6, I have boobs and thighs. My body fat % is within the normal range, yet when I was a healthy weight and size 10-12 my body fat % was in the dangerous category.

In terms of the half portion of rice and pasta, I should have mentioned that I'll also have garlic bread or naan (or similar) so with that I have a whole portion of carbs. My partner who is much bigger and needs more food has the bread in addition to a regular serving of pasta etc.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 08/07/2019 15:27

Wow thanks everyone! It’s made for intriguing reading, I was under no illusion that we are all the same; some folk have fast metabolisms, others slower plus I believe age and distance from/to menopause and childbirth makes a big difference.

I think the key takeaways (!) from this thread are

  • for those with a carby diet I’m guessing portions overall are small
  • I don’t see anyone else with the shocking sugar consumption I have

I’m also interested about those who eat “mindful” as I’m guilty of just cramming it in. Those who consider their hunger and eat and think about their consumption whilst they are eating are probably on the whole lighter than those who don’t.

I am 5'4" and weigh just under 10 stones. I am very active, which is probably why I get away with eating a lot of bread and stuff.
Today I am having -
Breakfast - cheese, onion and tomato sandwich (2 slices of wholemeal bread)
Lunch - chickpea and salad sandwich (2 slices of wholemeal bread)
Frys peppermint cream, 1 nectarine, 1 orange
Dinner - pasta, tomato sauce and cheese.
Will try not to pig out on anything else, but we will see.

MargotsFlounceyBlouse · 08/07/2019 16:25

5 foot 7 and 10st 8. I skip breakfast just have tea, then have tuna mayo sweetcorn for brunch just out the bowl Grin maybe a beef salad sandwich with horse radish around teatime and standard dinner mince/mash sausages/lasagne whatever but my portion sizes are very small. I've just realised I essentially have two small dinners one at 4 one at 7 not one big one.

I don't eat any sweets choc or crisps puddings etc so sugar intake is probably very low so that's probably why I can get away with the mayo and the sausages etc. Im a savoury person not sweet I guess! I'm not a particular organised cook and don't eat enough fruit and veg so not sure I'm the best example but my weights always been steady. I do go to the gym two or three times a week and do a run plus work on core so that might contribute.

Daisydoesnt · 08/07/2019 16:45

I find threads like this fascinating - I am not sure what conclusions you can draw OP there is such a huge variety in diets, eating patterns and sizes!

I'm very nearly 50, 5ft6 and weigh 8 stone. I reckon I've lost half a stone over the past year - which is when I started running regularly - even though I feel like my portion sizes have all gone up. I am active (and always have been, only the running is new in the last year). I have a quite physical job, walk the dogs an hour a day, yoga 3 or 4 times a week, and run 4 times a week.

Breakfast - bircher muesli with grated apple, homemade granola, plain (whole fat) live yoghurt, and either banana or berries. Its a big bowlful.
lunch - normally two rounds of sandwiches on wholegrain (say tuna or salmon and absolutely stuffed with lettuce, salad, alfalfa sprouts, grated carrot etc)
dinner - tonight we're having marinated chicken which I'll griddle, with new potatoes and either a salad or vegetables.
I drink several cups of tea, and only use full fat milk. I use olive oil or butter for cooking (no low fat substitutes here).

If I've had a really hard run in the morning I might have a a piece of toast with peanut butter when I get back,or some salmon if I have some cold in the fridge, or just a couple of hard boiled eggs. I crave protein then!

Apart from the exercise/ activity I think my diet is very heavy on vegetables & fruit (I reckon on an average day I'll have 7 or 8 portions) which is filling so I don't get hungry between meals, apart from after running. And I don't drink alcohol.
