If so what do you eat in a day?

I ask as I’ve got around 15kg to lose to get back to what my “target” weight should be.

Ps: this is not a thread about peddling diets, disordered eating etc, I’m just interested.

OP posts:
Oilyskinproblems · 07/07/2019 19:55

I’m 5’4 8st 8, early 30s and exercise daily. On a week day I’ll have
Lunch - soup or salad or omelette (no carbs)
Snack - a chocolate bar and fruit
Dinner - something like a burrito bowl or baked potato with chilli and salad or cous cous and salmon tikka

On the weekend I’ll eat lots of crap Blush yesterday was Nando’s, Krispy Kremes and pizza with salad and garlic bread. I never eat breakfast.

WatchingDanEvans · 07/07/2019 19:55

I chop the new potatoes into 4 so it looks like more on the plate

WatchingDanEvans · 07/07/2019 19:55

I’m 48

I notice many eat oats here ;0)
Has anybody eaten them and stopped eating them for breaky because they make you hungry ?
This sounds crazy I know ... I find they make me hungrier the. Shredded wheat for example even though I love oats

TheCanyon · 07/07/2019 20:10

5ft 5 and 8 st 3.

Breakfast is just 3 or 4 coffees. Have never ate breakfast as long as i can remember.

Lunch either nothing or sometimes egg mayo or corned beef/cheese sandwich, mozzarella sticks, cheese on toast or just a packet of crisps.

Dinner is typically something carby like pasta, pizza etc.

Also drink up to a litre of fizzy juice a day Blush

Poetryinaction · 07/07/2019 20:14

5'3" and about 8.5stone.
Breakfast is 2 bowls of cereal - cheerios or muesli or shreddies or cornflakes or shredded wheat. 2 cups of tea.
Mid morning - fruit and tea. Sometimes a slice of toast or cake.
Lunch - slice of cheese, fruit, maybe a small greek salad, maybe chocolate and crisps if I'm not at work. I'm not a fan of sandwiches.
5ish - crackers or toast
9ish - dinner is usually rice and veg, maybe egg or fish.

Chipsahoy · 07/07/2019 20:18

I think it's more about portion sizes.
I'm about 7 and half stone and 5ft 3. I'm currently breastfeeding and really struggle to get to my usual weight of 8 stone right now.
I pretty much eat what I want and currently eat all day cos breastfeeding makes me hungry. But I don't eat a large portion of anything at all. So if we had cake, my Dh would have a giant slice and I'd have a tiny one. Ice cream I'd have one scoop, he'd have three.
Today I have had one egg and a slice of toast for breakfast, snacked on a rice cake. Then lunch was one ham salad brioche roll with walkers crisps and strawberries for after.
Usually I'd snack on yogurt and granola but today it was a magnum ice cream after a bike ride.
Dinner was two sausages in one bun, sweetcorn, salad and a few crisps. No dessert, but I will have wine tonight

WalkofShame · 07/07/2019 20:22

5ft5 and about 9 1/2 Stone

Mid morning
2 Veggie sausage 2 hash browns baked beans
Or oatcakes with peanut butter and an apple or banana.
Or if I’m organised, some sort of pasta salad

Tea time
Veggie curry / chilli / pasta and sauce
(Massive portion!)

Snacks
Flapjack mid afternoon
Family sized packet of crisps most evenings Blush

Drink herbal tea, fruit juice (Diet Coke - horrible Diet Coke habit!)

WalkofShame · 07/07/2019 20:23

I’m 46 by the way

Flatwhite32 · 07/07/2019 20:34

5'4 and I weigh 8 stone. Today I have had:

Breakfast - Bowl of bran flakes, a brioche roll, a couple of sips of orange juice and some grapes. Instant coffee with milk.

Snack - a handful of ready salted crisps and salsa.

Lunch - salmon and broccoli quiche and salad.

Dinner - homemade pork chilli with kidney beans, grated courgette, sweet corn and peppers. It was served with brown rice. Pudding was a Coconut Collaborative chocolate pot.

Apart from my morning orange juice, I only drink water throughout the day as I prefer it! I usually have an afternoon snack between lunch and dinner, but didn't bother today as I wasn't hungry. It's usually something unhealthy like a couple of biscuits!

Flatwhite32 · 07/07/2019 20:35

Meant to say I only drink water in terms of cold drinks. I usually have two coffees a day with milk, and a couple of cups of herbal tea. I rarely drink alcohol unless I'm at an occasion, as I don't tolerate it very well. I also have a very active 11 month old DD to chase after!

SpaceCadet4000 · 07/07/2019 20:36

5ft3 and 8 stone. I'm pescatarian, so I eat a lot of non-meat proteins. A standard day would be something like:

Breakfast: sourdough with marmite + yoghurt, berries and flax seed
Lunch: cheese and roasted veg frittata with a side salad or leftovers
Dinner: something like black bean enchiladas, chickpea and aubergine curry, veggie pasta bake, fish tacos
Snacks: a portion of fruit, probably some dried fruit, nuts/seeds, dark chocolate
Drinks: black coffee no sugar, sparkling water, water with lemon, herbal teas. No alcohol though.

I'm a strong believer in balance and not restricting, so I do have treats. Ice cream and Subway are my weak spots!

Oilyskinproblems · 07/07/2019 20:40

OP - something which has really helped me in the past is keeping a diary. I wrote down everything I ate in a day and which days of my cycle made me bloated/put on a few lbs. Keeping track of the food meant I could tell what wasn’t working for me - for example bread was stopping me from
Losing weight and cutting that down to weekends only helped a lot. Keeping track of my weight fluctuations/bloating in relation to my cycle helped psychologically as if I put on weight due to my period coming I knew not to be disheartened.

I know it sounds boring and a lot of effort but you only really need to do it for a couple of months and then you should know what works and what doesn’t work.

Rachelover40 · 07/07/2019 20:45

I'm 5'6" and weigh about 9.5 stone. If I was 11 stone I'd be enormous, really fat. As it is I'm just right. I weighed a lot less when I was young but that's not unusual and it was fashionable to be skinny then.

Sproink · 07/07/2019 20:47

I'm 5'6" and around 8 stone 7lbs in the measurements almost universally used for height and weight in the UK.

I could eat chips everyday and be less than 11 stone. I just eat normal food and stop when I am full. There is no magic formula as far as I am aware.

My last meal was a BBQ'd pork chop and halloumi, baked potato and salad washed down with chilled rosé.

tilder · 07/07/2019 20:50

I'm 5'6" and 9st. Am about 0.5st heavier than 10 years ago (am 41). I exercise regularly but not as much as I used to. Crisps are my weakness. I would like to lose the fat round my middle, but crisps taste good...

I eat cereal, coffee, oj for breakfast.

Sandwich with fruit for lunch

Tea, veg with some non red meat protein, sauce and carbs.

Generally a couple family crisp packs per week.

Yy to portion control. Not total food on plate, but food groups. A portion of cheese is tiny. I lose weight when I reduce protein and dairy, while increasing veg. Cutting out crisps makes a massive difference.

Exercise helps weight loss if it's hard work for at least 30 minutes, 3x a week.

Thirder · 07/07/2019 21:05

I'm 5'6 and usually about 8 stone 12 pounds. I'm 3 months post partum and currently weigh 9 stone 7 pounds.

I was hovering around 10 stone for ages and just cut out butter and it has helped me drop that half stone without really trying. I would usually eat a lot of real butter on toast, fry with it, etc. Now it's gone but I'm still eating a lot of other things. Not so much toast as it's not so delious Grin

Today I had:
Two black coffees
Single egg omelette with mushrooms, tomatoes and sprinkle of cheese.
Choc muffin
1 banana
Slice of toast with lots natural peanut butter and small layer of nutella (like a snickers of toastHalo)
Roast chicken, about 2 roast potatoes and lots of veg (courgette, aubergine, peppers, mushrooms, onions)
3 marshmallows
1 herbal tea

I'm hungry now again Sad. Have been very active today and breastfeeding. I have hidden some Swiss roll and may have some with a cup of tea.

SuddenBeetE · 07/07/2019 21:35

I’m 5 5 and 9 stone 7? Or thereabouts.

Porridge, toast or on non work mornings I’ll have eggs/bacon.

Normal lunch is a sandwich, usually ham salad with mayo and boiled egg, crisps, maybe a yoghurt or fruit. Or jacket potato/soup.

Dinner family type meals of chilli, spaghetti bolognese, lasagne etc.

I eat out every other Thursday, Indian or Thai food usually.

I don’t snack much but if I do it’s cheese, crackers, olives.

I love food and eat what I like, but I don’t have a sweet tooth so rarely eat chocolate/cake etc.

Spiceupyourlife · 07/07/2019 21:47

I’m 5’9 and 10st 9lb

I ate porridge with banana and honey for breakfast, pie, chips and veg for lunch and then snacked on choc and biscuits for dinner!

Honestly don’t think ‘health’ and weight are super intertwined - I’m ‘slim’ but need to do some serious work to be healthy

HoHoHolyCow · 07/07/2019 21:51

I'm 5ft 5 and weigh around 8.5 stone.

A typical day of food is:

Bagel with butter, cup of tea.

Wholemeal roll with cheese and apple inside. Some crisps. A banana. Can of diet coke. A caramel wafer.

Veggie stir fry with noodles/bean chilli with rice and sour cream/ pasta and garlic bread/veggie fajhitas.
Glass of wine.

I'll probably have a coffee with milk and sugar during the day too.

JoshLymanIsHotterThanSam · 07/07/2019 22:02

I’m 5 ft 8 and 10st 7.

Clearly from reading this thread there’s a lot of genetics at play too.

I am relatively slim although could lose another half a stone and still be comfortable, I’m not sure I could go much below 10 without starving myself.

GrabbyGertie · 07/07/2019 22:16

9 stone 6 pounds, 5 foot 5 inches. In my fifties. Swim and gym 3 or 4 times a week and walk a lot

I vaguely calorie count and eat between 1200 calories and 1500s a day usually. I’ll eat a few biscuits but don’t drink alcohol. I keep my portions small and avoid high fat or sugar foods. I eat at least five a day and make sure I eat plenty of protein.

I know it’s not something I’d say out loud but I just love being a reasonable weight. I’m not super slim at all but I feel I look good in clothes. I also love the fact that I’m a healthy weight.

PJLove80 · 07/07/2019 23:03

5 ft 6 and 10 stone 2, I eat a cereal bar or porridge for breakfast, usually a large hot lunch whatever I fancy, but keep evening meals very light. The key to not gaining weight for me is limiting food in the evenings but eating what I want during the day

AllPizzasGreatAndSmall · 08/07/2019 00:48

I am in my fifties so eat much less than a younger woman.
Can you explain the correlation there? Am I supposed to have lost my appetite now I'm over 50?

5’6’’ & 7 3/4 stone

Today I had a bacon roll
Home cooked salmon fillet with new potatoes (probably 3) & rocket salad
1/2 a marathon ( do you mean half a snickers or did you run one?)
10ish pringles
1/2 bottle of wine

I chop the new potatoes into 4 so it looks like more on the plate
Sorry, but that sounds like disordered eating - you are restricting your diet to keep your weight artificially low for your height, otherwise why would you be trying to make it look like there's more on your plate?

Yup. Used it have porridge daily but then realised it was making me hungry. Scrambled eggs keep me full for hours.

And we get told how good porridge is, filling etc.

Not for me!
