When Cain went off to Nod

And then had a wife, who was she? His sister? Or are their supposed to be other groups of people around, in which case how are we all supposed to come from Adam?

Obviously I don’t believe any of it but how do Christians square that away?

I googled and the best I got was that it was his sister but we didn’t have DNA mistakes then so inbreeding was fine Hmm

For Christians, it's not about using the rules of human logic (which God is bigger than, and cleverer than anyway) to 'explain away' the glaring plot-holes in the stories. It's about understanding the meaning contained within, and about what that understanding means for our daily lives as humans. A better question to ask, then, why did Cain run away to Nod?

I hope that this may help, hopefully someone may be able to make it clearer. Don't really have time to google (shouldn't be on Mumsnet!)

IIRC there are two conflated origin myths and God created mankind and then later created Adam to be the ancestor of his chosen people, so Cain married into the first wave, iyswim.

Gen 1:26-27, God created mankind

Gen 2 - Adam created.

However I thought that the pre-Christian Jews saw this story as something of an allegory, a 'where did we come from' sort of story and not literal fact. I mean, there were always those who wanted to have a date stamp, but lots over the ages have thought that it's more important to look at what the story is telling us about how we should behave now.

I was told, may be wrong, that 'dominion' in dominion over the beasts of the field can also be interpreted from the original as 'protective guardianship'.

Lots of weird stuff about Genesis on the internet, so perhaps check what you are told (including me!)
