Upgrading to a Smart TV - what do I need?

Help please.
I need a new TV. Currently have an old flatscreen. Want a new 4K HD Smart TV, but I assume I’m going to need some new wires etc to connect my DVD, EE Box etc.... Can anyone advise so I can order everything at once.
TIA.

I used my same wires!

I wouldn't waste my money. I have a smart TV but never use it. You have an EEbox that will do the same job.

Don't you just need HDMI cables to connect your dvd player and box to the TV?

I didn't have to get any new cables when I got my smart TV

Thanks all, very helpful.
I might just need an extra HDMI one then. As my current DVD box has a SCART lead and I think new Smart TVs don’t have SCART ports.

I'm another one who never uses the smart bit of the TV. Firestick does everything I need and never use the frankly rubbish apps on my smart tv

@RebootYourEngine - I need a new TV as mine has started to get coloured lines down the side of it, so thought I may as well get a Smart one.

We have a samsung smart tv and use it a lot. Absolutely love it and would definitely buy that brand again.

We recently upgraded. We had to give away our old DVD player as it only worked off SCART and the new TV didn’t have any such sockets. If you are running other things off HDMI then you can continue to use these.

DH wanted to get a sound bar, although we decided to get one later if at all so not sure how that plugs in.

I have to say I’m more impressed than I expected with it.

@CloudRusting - this is the thing.
I’m not entirely sure what my EE box is running off!
DVD definitely off a SCART. Did you buy a new one?
Which TV did you get?

I’m also open to recommendations!

Hi OP.
You’ll only need a 4K tv if you have something that can supply a 4K signal to the tv.
Maybe the eebox does? I dunno.

stillmoving · 07/07/2019 13:45

You can get an adaptor for scary to HDMI, no need to get rid of the DVD player

stillmoving · 07/07/2019 13:45

ScarT

We have a smart tv, I love that I can open iPlayer, 4od, itv iplayer, Netflix and prime from the home screen. We didn’t buy any additional wires.

I would caution against an LG though as we’ve had ours for 18 months and it’s turned completely blue (backlight issue apaz, might be ok with the newer oled ones) and are having arguments trying to get a repair or replacement.

Thanks - @tanstaafl
These are the things I came on here to find out about. I have no idea!
