I have a smear test this afternoon

And I am dreading it. I have only had one before and long story short, it was horrible and painful.

I have been putting this one off for ages so am now slightly overdue. Will the nurse tell me off for being overdue?

I'm not even sure why I am posting this tbh. I am just looking for some reassurance I guess.

Sometimes they let you insert the speculum yourself if you feel more comfortable with that or use a smaller speculum.

They might also be able to give you a medication to relax you.

OP did you find it painful?
You were understandably nervous and therefore tense this time, now you know the procedure and have bared all to one nurse, it hopefully won’t seem such a big deal next time and you will be a bit more relaxed.

Yes it was painful, even more so than what my previous smear test was.

The first time she tried to put the speculum in I cried out because it hurt but it turned out she hasn't even put it in at that point Blush.

She kept asking me if I was okay because I must have looked nervous and she didn't really believe me when I told her yes.

Seriously why does it hurt me so much? Everyone else just seems to breeze through them Sad.

She knew I was nervous, she could tell just by looking at me.

She was nice but I think she was wary about doing it because even though I kept telling her I was fine and wanted to do it I guess my face and mannerisms must have told a different story.

you could always have a chat with your gp and ask if they can prescribe something to help you relax for the appointment. I read some threads on here where women said it made the examination much easier because their body was so relaxed.

Don't feel bad about it not happening today hugs. Enjoy your Nandos and your wine. You can always try again.
