Fundraising ideas?

Someone I know runs a local charity which is at risk of closing due to lack of funds. They do their own small scale fundraising (sponsored walks, quiz nights, coffee mornings) but it really isn't enough now.

I've said I'll try and look into other areas of fundraising. But I've never done this before, where do I start!

I was thinking of emailing local businesses but in all seriousness are they likely to even reply to the email? It's not like we can even offer them advertising (like I know sports teams do) because it's just not that type of set up. We are literally just asking for money! There has been a piece in the local paper recently about their impending closure, so I suppose a follow up in the paper (mentioning who has helped) might appeal to some. But I don't think it'll be enough.

Has anyone got any tips???

Chocolate bingo is always a hit and chocolate prizes are cheaper then money.

Race nights, lay out a track (two bits of marked rope should do) use cuddly toys as horses then throw two dice. One decides which ‘horse’ moves the second dice decides how many spaces (make sure the marked spots on the rope are even to make the spaces) People ‘buy’ a horse for each race then bet on the outcome (small prize for the top three horses like chocolate or a small cash prize)

Quiz nights are always popular, there are loads of websites with questions/answers so you don’t have to rack your brains to make up questions.

Tombola/raffle, canvass local businesses stressing how much good publicity could come from them donating.

Fun day at the stables, face painting, cake stands, games. So long as it doesn’t stress the horses go wild!

Car boot sales- people are decluttering so would donate things that might sell.

Or if having an open day, a bric-a-brac stall.
