He has an iPhone 5 but I can’t tracks the phone. When I go on find my iPhone to locate his phone, it says he’s offline, on the settings on his phone I can’t click on his name/Apple ID?

Location services are on, when I click on share my location it says below family and has my name but says ‘cannot see your location’ and is shaded grey. If I click on my name I just see my details? It will says ‘share my location unavailable. Unable to connect to server’.

No idea i’m afraid Op but just giving a bump in case someone else can help you.

Have you tried rebooting the 5?
Does the 5 have Internet enabled? It needs to be enabled.
Does the 5 have location services enabled? Needs to be.
Do you have any 'child control' software installed? Take it off and use the Apple controls.

Can you track other devices okay from your phone?

Thanks for replying.

Does rebooting mean just turning off and on?? Have done that.
Yes I use parental controls on it as I need to use the downtime etc. It’s not an app just the normal ones on the phone?
Yes it’s enabled with internet
Yes it has locations switched on?

It says under location service under share my location ‘dc’s iPad is being used for location sharing’ then when I click on that ‘share my location’ is switched on and at the bottom it says ‘family’ and my name is there but it’s light grey and says ‘cannot are your location’

This was our problem:

“Find My phone not sharing location error can occur when you haven’t signed in to your iCloud ID. Since Find My iPhone utilizes iCloud to locate the location of a device; you need to be signed in to iCloud for location sharing to work. To sign in to your iCloud ID, go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud > and enter your Apple ID and password to sign in to your iCloud.”

We also had a problem (I think) because my DDs cloud storage was full so we had to sort that out too.

Took me bloody years to sought this. Try this article.

If that doesn't work keep googling solutions.

Thanks will have a look. When I was on his phone though I can’t click on his name/Apple ID? It was light grey. Why is that?

So I somehow got it working this morning and could see his phone at home, then it wouldn’t work, just looked again and it’s working. Hmm
