Help me, I'm a twat

I'm having a complete and utter brain fart please help. I want to order an IKEA sofa and I cannot for the life of me work out if the package is going to get through my door and into my flat (I live on the first floor). The largest package is:

Width: 81 cm
Height: 38 cm
Length: 195 cm

Whereas the front door to my flat is only 70 cm wide and 196 cm tall. Taking the door off its hinges would add on an extra 6/7cm

Is it going to fit or not?! Why am I so stupid that I can't work it out?!

It’ll fit! Just don’t try it lengthways. It’ll need to go in diagonally with the small end first, if that makes sense.

Worst comes to worst you’ll need to unpack it and take it through bit by bit.

KnifeAngel · 04/07/2019 16:03

It will go in sideways as it is only 38cm.

Babyiwantabump · 04/07/2019 16:03

Erm the main dimensions for fitting it through would be the width and height? So if you turned it on it’s side it should ?

You wouldn’t put it lengthways would you?

yes, because your door is 70cm wide, and the sofa turned on its side would be 38cm wide (unless I am also totally wrong because admittedly it puzzled me too!)

so you should be fine!

This. I've done this many times!

HollowTalk · 04/07/2019 16:04

Think about it - what would be the point of them selling things that can't go through a normal door?!

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 04/07/2019 16:04

I’m going to say no it won’t fit but dh works this kind of stuff out in this house so I’m probably not helpful.

Hopefully someone with a brain will be along shortly.........

GookledyGobb · 04/07/2019 16:04

It’ll fit through the door opening but it kind of depends whether your hall is straight on from your door or whether you need to turn once you come through the doorway?

SoupDragon · 04/07/2019 16:05

Hold your phone flat in front of you. It's very long, quite wide and not very tall, just like the package. Now put it upright with the thin edge facing you. It's now very narrow and will fit through your door.

TheFlis12345 · 04/07/2019 16:05

The height is less than the door width so that will be fine. It’s quite long though so if that is in one piece, make sure you can actually manoeuvre it to where it needs to get to e.g. will it fit around any bends in a narrow stairwell.

PancakeAndKeith · 04/07/2019 16:06

It’ll fit.
Don’t worry about the length assuming you have enough space for it to come through the door.

The 38cm will fit the width of the door and the 81cm will fit the height.

What is the other side of the door though. Will it have to go around a corner?

AppropriateAdult · 04/07/2019 16:06

Yes, of course it will. You'll tip it up so the long axis is parallel to the ground. Then the 38 x 81cm will fit easily through the 70 x 196cm doorway.

hsegfiugseskufh · 04/07/2019 16:06

yes gob we had that issue in our old house, it got through the door but the hallway wasn't big enough to get it into the living room door because it wouldn't go round the corner. we took the window out. in December. that was a fun day.

bolshevik · 04/07/2019 16:08

I don't really have a hall - you open the door, you stand on a small square and then you go up one flight of stairs to my landing, then go immediately right and up three more stairs (as in 3 stairs, not 3 flights of stairs) and then you're in the main flat

OP posts:
PancakeAndKeith · 04/07/2019 16:11

Ok. It should be able to come in and go straight up the stairs.

bolshevik · 04/07/2019 16:12

Thanks all Blush

As long as you remember to pivot Grin

GookledyGobb · 04/07/2019 20:52

The immediate right at the top of the stairs may be an issue

bolshevik · 05/07/2019 15:23

It shouldn't be if the door isn't, there's much more space up there
