Tips on keeping prosecco fizzy

So, I often really fancy a glass of prosecco or some other fizzy wine on a Friday night, however my DH doesnt drink it and I usually fancy around 2 glasses. Any tips on keeping it fizzy after it has been opened until the next night? Thinking there may be some kind of mumsnet life hack that I dont know about ...

A teaspoon with the handle down the neck of the bottle. Don’t know why but it works! Probably not long term but definitely for the next day or two.

Yep - put a teaspoon in the neck and leave it there. Stays fizzy for ages.

Note on the teaspoon - it has to be silver to work apparently! I'm with PP on the champagne saver. Will keep wine fizzy for days.

I used to do the teaspoon trick which works ok, but being given a fizz stopper (like the one linked above) has been life changing! 😂 it works so much better, I can open a bottle of cava on a Saturday night and drink half, leave it in the fridge till the following weekend and it’s good as new!

The teaspoon trick is utter rubbish. The reason it seems to work is that sparkling wines naturally have a certain amount of CO2 which doesn't dissipate immediately, hence the myth arose that a teaspoon was actually doing the trick.

Careful with the champagne stoppers. I have one and it created such a fearsome vacuum that when I took it off again the next day the thing shot across the room, smashed a couple of glasses and nearly hit my MIL in the face. Scared us all senseless so now I just finish the bottle the first time Wink

Just leave it in the fridge for a night and it will be fine. Or better, use a champagne stopper (Lakeland or amazon do them)

I honestly just scrunch up some kitchen foil into a cork shape and shove it in. It will always keep it fizzy for at least a day.
