We live an hour from my parents. 10 minutes from PIL.
My mum has said a few times that had we lived by her she would have happily given up work to have my kids whilst I worked. She works in a nursery despite being able to afford not to work and loves her job so I beleive she would have done this.
As it happens, we live too far away (our choice we chose to live here) to provide regular childcare and as they have a hobby that takes up alot of weekends, we see them maybe once a month and they have the kids for the weekend every few months.
PIL have DS after school once a week and have both kids overnight on average once every 6 weeks. MIL used to watch DD one day a week until she got her 30 free hours.
DH often makes comments about how much more his parents help with the kids than mine.
Admittedly their hobby takes away alot of time that I wish we could spend with them, but its not like we can drop the kids with them for a few hours like we can with PIL. It is 2 hours of driving to see my parents and that was our decision not theirs!
Is he being unfair or is he justified? I would love to see my parents more but they have an active life (and both work) whereas PIL really don't.
