Pillow in cot- safe or not?

DS is 22 months, he has had a cold and cough for a week, and when he lays down he gets very coughy and it wakes him up. We have been bringing him into our bed and he's been using a pillow to prop him up a bit and this has helped with his cough. On the downside, he always has a terrible nights sleep when in our bed as there's not much room, he gets hot and bothered and wakes a lot.

Would it be dangerous to leave a pillow in his cot for him to lay on tonight? He's using it at the moment and I'm watching on the baby camera, but when we go to bed I don't know if I ought to take it away in case he ends up under it or stuck inside it lol yes PFB but help a mother out!

Could you get him a toddler pillow?
I'm not sure if a normal one would be to poofy to leave with him

Pillow after 1 is fine

PotteringAlong · 02/07/2019 21:47

After 1 is not a problem.

My daughter has had a toddler pillow since 18months, I reckon pick up one of those! They’re firmer than regular pillows, although if your pillows are pretty flat I’m sure that would be fine!

My DS is 14 months and a side/front sleeper. From 11 months we've used a Clevamama pillow which is the same firmness as his mattress but raises his head by an inch or so so he's comfy on his side. It also has holes through it for breathability.

Would something like that work for you?

We prop our sons cot up on books as well when he’s got a cold

Orangedaisy · 02/07/2019 21:59

Normal flat ish pillow absolutely fine at that age.

lyralalala · 02/07/2019 22:00

At that age I’d leave him with the pillow. If you are nervous of it you could put a rolled towel under the mattress or raise one end of the cot. I’d stick with the pillow

I think my two had them from about the same age for the exams reason, started with coughs and it seems to help at night. If you’re not sure the other option is to raise the actual mattress by putting the pillows or books under that at one end and make sure the room is well ventilated. Can thoroughly recommend the calpol plug in too, that has always seemed to help my two sleep easier when they’re full of a cold

SparkyBlue · 02/07/2019 22:31

Absolutely fine at that age.

PhillipeFellope · 02/07/2019 22:37

Fine at that age.

AuditAngel · 02/07/2019 23:29

I would fold a blanket and put it under the head of the mattress, it lifts the mattress but won’t cause his head to tip and he won’t move off it in the night
