Mum says claw machine is rigged after spending £100 for just one toy

There is a article in our local paper website about a 34 year old Mum who spent £100 on trying to win a cuddly toy for her 5 month old ds from a claw machine at an amusement arcade on a holiday resort somewhere in Sussex. She initially spent £40 then complained to a member of staff, who changed the setting of the machine. She then won the toy with her next go. The member of staff then changed the setting once more, but said Mum wanted a 2nd toy for her ds, so proceeded to spend another £60.

I would link the article but our local paper website is full of spam and slows your computer down so i'll spare you that.

But why? Why would this woman go to such effort for a 5 month old, who probably isn't old enough to really care anyway? And surely you could just find said toy on ebay for £5 anyway? Grin

I feel sorry for the kid. I may be wrong but the child’s future doesn’t seem overly bright. Like the mother.

I'm glad to have been of service mentioning APLIN, I've had hours of entertainment from it Grin

Could have bought one from the Disney shop for much cheaper and better quality.

They are rigged. My exh used to deliver and install them and fruit machines and they can be set to how hard they grip.
Stupid woman must have more money - and time - than sense

When I was teenager in the 80s my then boyfriend used to win loads of these, there is a definite knack to it. But the toys are usually dreadful old Chinese made shit, I certainly wouldn't let a baby near any of them! I remember charity shopping two huge bin bags of the bloody things when I dumped the boyfriend!

How embarrassing for her. Advertising it like that in the press.

MarthasGinYard · 03/07/2019 07:56

I bet she bought 30 scratch cards on the way home to soften the blow.

My sister had the knack as well, she had bags full of the things

Which one's Dumbo?

My DH unfortunately has a knack when he's drunk. One night I ended up with 3 from the same machine from £5.

Would've been cheaper for her to take him out and get him pissed.

“My son is five months old, but if he was old enough, he would probably be upset.”

At how daft his mama is? Well yes he probably will be when someone shows him the newspaper cuttings.
