How long/what pattern are the school holidays where you are?

Just out of interest-would love to hear from other countries as well as I know people often complain that 6 weeks off in England in the summer is too long for school children.

In England where I am (SE), the kids have 6 weeks in the summer, about 2 weeks at Christmas and Easter and then a week for half term in February/May and October.

If it’s different for you-can you tell me about it?

Not a journalist by the way, just nosy!

In Scotland they are broadly similar but we are breaking up for the summer now and go back mid August. When people post on here about dc being on holidays I’ve seen them accused of being trolls because uk schools don’t break up for weeks yet.
This means we don’t have a half term between Easter break and summer. We have two weeks in October instead in our area.

I love the long summer holidays... well I used to. Two of mine are teenagers now so not as enthusiastic about day trips and adventures as they used to be but ds2 (9) still lives them.

In Canada (BC) last day of elementary (primary) June 27, return to school Sept 3.
878 hrs of instruction per year. Christmas and Easter break fairly long with several long weekends (about once a month) for statutory holidays and teacher professional development days.
