I have just seen a clip of Sleaford Mods at Glastonbury.

They were singing a song (maybe called discourse??) but the tune for the song was really similar to something else and I can't put my finger on what.

At first I thought maybe something by squeeze or the jam but I just can't figure out what.

Help me Please!

Phil Collins - something happened on the way to heaven?

ChuckyMonkey · 01/07/2019 00:24

No it's something that feels a bit more mod like or punkier in vibe.

Thanks though

Ah sorry I gave the wrong song, the intro is very like Phil Collins who said I would.

I think it’s his singing style that’s very weller/jam esque. The band have 52 song samples listed in their back catalogue but discourse doesn’t come up as one.

That should be a link to the Glasto performance

Don't know about tune but his actual voice really reminds me of Angelos Epithemiou.

In the comments of the video people have compared the tune to Lucky Number by Lene Lovich and Supermario Confused

EugenesAxe · 01/07/2019 00:35

Actually now it slightly reminds of Echo Beach? He's really had some drugs there hasn't he.

PomBearWithAnOFRS · 01/07/2019 01:46

It reminds me of the shouty bit from Love shack. The "I got me a Chrysler" bit.

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 01/07/2019 01:53

The pattern in the verse reminds me of Lene Lovich Lucky Number. Grin I am feeling old!

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 01/07/2019 01:55

Ah sorry eugene x-post
Can you not hear the similarity? It's only in the verse, rather the rhythm of the verse not the chorus. there isn't one it's tuneless shouting
In the same way Sheeran's Shape of you used the pattern of No Scrubs.

Progress2019 · 01/07/2019 03:51

It reminds me a bit of Rock the Casbah by The Clash

Lemonlady22 · 01/07/2019 05:23

blimey...we have people like that in our local precinct...they usually have a dog on a rope and an old duvet with them!

EugenesAxe · 01/07/2019 11:46

I’m ashamed that I have never heard of Lena Lovich, or the song! But having watched your clip I definitely agree. My Confused face was more about it reminding one person of that and someone else, Mariocart!

Don't be! it was a random post-punk hit back in 79. She's 70 now Shock She did have other singles but they didn't chart as high (lucky number got to #3) so she's often thought of as a one-hit wonder.
