How long for results if you're on a 2week cancer referral from gp?

Dh found a lump on his breast area. It's fairly distinct and gp doesn't believe it's a cyst (I don't think it feels like one either). What else can it be? Google just says cancer Sad

Gp has put dh on a 2week cancer pathway for diagnosis. Will they be able to tell from a scan? I've no idea how it works. I'm really scared but trying to be strong and reassuring for dh. He's generally fit and healthy and rarely even drinks. Life is/was good so part of me is expecting it to be cancer as life is too perfect. Crap, I'm scared!

Im female. I had a recall from my mammogram. My hospital date was 13 days after the mammogram, in the two week cancer pathway.

I had all the required tests on the day. I had another mammogram of the breast of interest. I was shown the area of interest. I had an ultrasound. I had a manual check. After this, I was told they thought it was a cyst. They used a needle to take off the liquid. I dont know if it was tested. I was given another mammogram to check it had gone. It had, I was given this news on the same day at the end of the tests.

I understand procedures used in these clinics vary according to need. My freinds experience was slightly different and she had a biopsy taken and it sent off. She received her good news later than I did. Hers was some sort of "unusual tissue" but entirely OK.

I wish you all the very best. I understand how scary it is waiting for the tests.

Depends where you are in the country I think. I was referred to a breast care centre very quickly - a one stop shop, where I had a scan, mammogram and a biopsy there and then; had to wait a few days for the result. I wasn't one of the lucky ones but most are, by far the bigger percentage are OK and it's not cancer.

The treatment if it is cancer is second to none. It really isn't necessarily the end at all. Try not to worry.

It doesn't work that because you are very happy if should be spoilt. No way xx

Thank you for replying! It's going to be a long 2 weeks. We're pretty busy this week so that's a bonus I guess.

Mine was a one stop shop as well - everything done there and then, result at the end of it. There's no point saying not to worry, because you do.

Hope all works out well for your DH. Flowers

my daughter saw GP on day one, consultant day 3, op and results by day 10....all ok thank goodness.. hope you are ok

Aardvarkitsabloodyaardvark · 01/07/2019 05:36

Mine is the same as previous posters. 2 week wait but everything done in one place straight away. Where abouts in the UK are you?

madasamarchhare · 01/07/2019 05:44

I was referred to breast clinic and seen in under a week. Mine was also a one stop shop with all tests done on the same day and I was told the result of each test as they finished it. Mine was a cyst.

madasamarchhare · 01/07/2019 05:45

Sorry meant to add that I send you good vibes. It’s good to be busy and try not to worry. Easier said than done but it can be so many things.

Nautiloid · 01/07/2019 05:50

I've had two referrals to the breast clinic. With the first, I was seen on day 10 of the two weeks. I had an ultrasound and biopsy. I can't remember how long the biopsy result took but it wasn't long because I went abroad for months shortly afterwards and I had the results beforehand.
With the second, I just had an ultrasound and was reassured then and there.

Nautiloid · 01/07/2019 05:50

Oh and with the second the appointment was in 13 days.

MinnieMountain · 01/07/2019 07:05

NEVER google.

Try to keep yourselves busy. The GP could be wrong.

I got my biopsy results within a week.

stucknoue · 01/07/2019 07:34

I saw the registrar, then had tests all within a couple of hours, very efficient. Results took about 7 days from the biopsy (negative, phew)

Fairylea · 01/07/2019 07:36

I had the results on the same day I went to the hospital. They did a scan and told me it was a cyst. For what it’s worth the vast majority of breast lump referrals are not cancer. Good luck. Flowers

AuntieStella · 01/07/2019 07:43

I had an all-clear on the day, after giving medical history and having physical examination, ultrasound and mammogram. It was a benign cyst.

If they need to take biopsies, then you will have a period of uncertainty, but hey will be able to give you a very clear idea of what they are looking for and how long until results. Many biopsies result in an all clear.

Malibucyprus · 01/07/2019 14:17

I was referred to the breast clinic for a lump in each breast, I had an ultrasound and physical examination, results were fatty tissue. In and out within 2 hours.

I think the initial wait from seeing GP to breast clinic was around 3 weeks, but it was 11 years ago, and I was only 25 so my GP wasn't too concerned.

Sending positive vibes to you both Flowers

itbemay1 · 01/07/2019 14:19

I'm in London. Was seen within a week and got results same day. Hope all works out OP

FairyDust92 · 01/07/2019 14:32

I work in dentistry and when we send someone to the hospital for suspected cancer the wait is 2 weeks but they generally get the results on the same day. Good luck to you and your husband! 🤞🏼

Thank you everyone!
