Memorial plaque

Posting here as I'm not really sure where this should go.

A local church has the ashes of two of my grandparent and two of my great grandparents. All have a memorial plaque in the churchyard. We have received a letter to say the church have decided to remove the plaques. My mum is very upset about this. They (my mum and her sister) take care of all the upkeep etc. Are the church allowed to just remove the plaque? I think they can, but it doesn't seem very fair on the families in the area.

Any advice would be gratefully received if there is anything I can do. TIA xx

That's sad, it does seem strange. Perhaps you could find out if any other families will have the same problem. And it is the sort of story local newspapers would be interested in.

I would think they would need a faculty to remove them. Best people to speak to would be the PCC or failing that the diocese will have an office that deals with things like that.
