Staying in Liverpool this Wed for one or 2 nights with dh, he wants to do the beatles stuff and the docks

Small budget but really don't want a shitheap have had enough of them in the past. First trip away without kids.
Have looked at village hotel, we like the pool there. We'll be driving down from Scotland, is the village hotel handy for getting into the docks?

Ah shees, had to cancel the B&B, back to square one, looking at the liner again but will check the arthouse first

I stayed at the Park hotel in Aintree a couple of weeks ago for the Bon Jovi gig at anfield. Cheap as chips but perfectly nice and easy to get in to the centre on the Merseyrail.

The time before that I had a day in Liverpool and used my clubcard vouchers to go on the ferry trip, just an idea if you’ve got any vouchers.

Kez200 · 30/06/2019 23:06

Host so simple

Great company for hosting lots of city centre air b and bs in Liverpool

Nemesia1264 · 30/06/2019 23:17

Have a look at booking.com there's availability @ sir Thomas Hotel which is well placed for sight seeing £100 2 nights.

Toddlerteaplease · 30/06/2019 23:20

I usually stay in Hale village, a 15 minute drive out of Liverpool. It's cheaper and there are some lovely b&bs. Or I like the old airport crown Plaza as it's Art Deco. Ibis styles In Dale street. The Dolby hotel. The Nadler.

Toddlerteaplease · 30/06/2019 23:20

Cheapest place to park is the Anglican cathedral.

Nemesia1264 · 30/06/2019 23:21

Also Hallmark hotel ( formerly the Alicia Hotel) , Printwork apartments Henry St or Ibis Hotel Albert Dock should all be reasonable and on budget. Latter 2 are in the city centre, the first is in in Sefton Park.

SkintAsASkintThing · 30/06/2019 23:22

I've found booking direct with the hotel cheaper than booking.com lately. I think its maybe because room choice is restricted 🤔

Nemesia1264 · 30/06/2019 23:25

No way Hale Village is 15 mins from the city centre @Toddlerteaplease, not driving anyway. More like 40 minutes away.
The airport hotels are fine but you'll have to either drive in or get a bus / train from South Parkway to the city centre.
You can park ( free?) @ Southparkway station.

Redcrayons · 30/06/2019 23:34

Hale village and the crowne plaza are quite a way out. You’d have to drive in and parking is £££
There’s a couple of Premier Inns which are fine.

TwattyMcTwatface · 30/06/2019 23:35

Arthouse is aimed at stag and hen dos and is really noisy until around 4/5am because of the area which is fine if you are partying but less so as you've said that's not your scene - no parking either.

The Campanile at the docks is super-cheap with free parking but very low end in terms of room. It's walking distance, though, from what you have said you want to see. They also have good food available, and there's other places around.

There's a Travelodge further out on the docks - free parking and next to Delifonseca. The one at the airport is usually the cheapest out of all of them, but means parking in the city.

There's a Novotel in the centre, and you get parking in the car park off Bold Street (not the closest car park to the hotel, bizarrely). If you need to park in town, though, that's not a bad car park - £8 for 24 hours, pay on departure too, not coins up front as a lot in town are.

Otherwise, there's a lot of Air B NB, plus Cocoon at the International have cheap pod doubles, and I think the Printworks and Hotel Indigo offer something similar.

Nemesia1264 · 30/06/2019 23:38

Don't think I'd like to stay at the Printworks hotel in Renshaw Street though, that looks rowdy....

Auntpetunia2015 · 30/06/2019 23:43

Liner hotel is lovely stayed for a wedding not long ago. Right in town and hugs free for guests car park next door. It’s right by the pier head and all the docks. I’ve marked it on pic to show how close it is.

Crapology · 30/06/2019 23:51

@Auntpetunia2015
That's not the Liner Hotel, it's the Atlantic Tower Hotel.
The Liner Hotel is next to Lime Street Station.

GibbonLover · 01/07/2019 00:23

Avoid the Hallmark on Mount Pleasant - looks great from the outside and in the pictures but is actually a shithole with inconvenient parking. I have heard good things about the staff and the breakfast at The Liner though and it's perfectly situated. Granted, the outside doesn't look too salubrious but it's supposed to be smart and clean inside.

GibbonLover · 01/07/2019 00:24

Just to add, the Hallmark I described is NOT the one that Nemesia mentions!

ssd · 01/07/2019 08:03

Thanks again, have ended up booking the Liner, 60 quid a night with brekky. Great that it's so central. We'll cut back in other ways, get some miniatures for dh and might just drive around rather than getting the Red tourist bus. I'll Google a bit before we go.
Amy good suggestions for dinner places? We like Italian though I'd love to get scouse, I had that years ago when I met a football players mum, it was great. I'd love the recipe if any of you make it?

OP posts:
ssd · 01/07/2019 08:05

Meant to add, is it worth eating in the cavern, there's scouse on the menu but it's pricey, is there anywhere near the cavern you'd recommended to eat, like a nice pub?

Casa Italia in Stanley st. Round the corner from the Cavern.

womaninthedark · 01/07/2019 08:59

I've enjoyed staying at The Liner, several times.

womaninthedark · 01/07/2019 09:02

Most recently stayed in Liverpool at the Holiday Inn, a few weeks ago. That was good, and cheaper than it was twenty years ago...

nohria · 01/07/2019 10:23

OP everyone I know makes scouse slightly differently but for me, the best recipe can be found on bbc website, called Rita's Posh Scouse. The first layer of potatoes is the key.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned it but the views from St Johns Beacon are staggering. It's £6.50 each to go up.

Nemesia1264 · 01/07/2019 10:45

Casa Italia Stanley Street
The Italian Club Bold Street

tomboytown · 01/07/2019 11:06

You can go up the Liver Buildings now too

ssd · 01/07/2019 11:27

Cheers everyone, any more ideas most welcome Smile
