Staying in Liverpool this Wed for one or 2 nights with dh, he wants to do the beatles stuff and the docks

Small budget but really don't want a shitheap have had enough of them in the past. First trip away without kids.
Have looked at village hotel, we like the pool there. We'll be driving down from Scotland, is the village hotel handy for getting into the docks?

Don’t stay at the Adelphi. Just in case you missed the previous comment. The city Centre premier inn are good.

ThreeLittleBirdz · 30/06/2019 13:46

We always stay at the Travelodge situated at Albert Docks. It's central for most of the city hotspots, The Beatles Story museum is right next door and the atmosphere is fabulous! Have a wonderful trip!!! Smile

Nemesia1264 · 30/06/2019 13:48

Another recommendation for the Liner Hotel.
I'm pretty sure the parking is free too.

ssd · 30/06/2019 13:59

Dh just said, what about the Adelphi?!?
I was like NOOOOOGrin

There are three Premier Inns in Liverpool city centre, one up at the Albert Dock, one near the station, not sure about the other one.

ssd · 30/06/2019 14:26

Am thinking of booking the liner hotel for 2 nights, great price and parking, is it within walking distance for most things?

We stayed at the Ibis across the road from Albert Dock. Cheap but perfectly fine. Super friendly staff and parking on site.

Slatkater · 30/06/2019 15:31

I think it is 10 minutes to the shops , about 25 mins to the docks. There are bus stops about a minute away so you can get a day rider and use the buses to get around.

Slatkater · 30/06/2019 15:33

Thinking about it the shops were less than 10 minutes.

ssd · 30/06/2019 15:38

I don't think I'd bother with the shops, were in Glasgow with brilliant shopping. I think we'd just sightsee a bit. Maybe catch a band at the cavern, the docks etc

Yes it's a well situated hotel for walking everywhere in the city centre.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/06/2019 16:05

We usually stay at the Malmaison - they often do a deal where it's around £85 for continental breakfast and a glass of Prosecco or cocktail each. The bar is a really nice place to sit. You can upgrade to full cooked breakfast whilst there, for just another couple of pounds.

The Travelodges are convenient too, and can often be found really cheap.

PissOffPeppa · 30/06/2019 16:16

I stayed at the Crowne Plaza once. It’s right near the Liver Building, a short walk from Albert Dock and all the Beatles stuff. It has parking too.

danmthatonestakentryanotheer · 30/06/2019 16:29

We stayed at the Liner a couple of years ago...be warned that some rooms are directly above the air-con unit and ours was really noisy. We stay at the Holiday Inn opposite the station now, it has car parking and is only a short walk via Liverpool One to the docks and just a short walk from Matthew Street where the original Cavern was.

GrimDamnFanjo · 30/06/2019 16:30

The Nadler? Great rooms and in the centre.

Glitteryfrog · 30/06/2019 16:31

Hampton by Hilton near the docks is ok and has car parking.

nohria · 30/06/2019 16:47

The Liner hotel is perfectly walkable from everything. The 'Pool is a compact city but why not go AirBnB? You'll get a city centre apartment for £60pn. Parking in an NCP on top of course but for me the best option. Liverpool has so many great places to eat (Leaf in Bold street for fab brekkie is my tip)z

Whatever you do, enjoy this amazing city x

ssd · 30/06/2019 20:39

Thanks everyone. Have ended up booking a B&B near Sefton Park, half the price of the liner hotel. We'll park and get the bus. We're on a really tight budget. But it looks really nice so we're pleased.
Any tips for seeing a lot in a day?
I looked at the open top bus, I think it's a blue and red route. I'd like to see the cavern, some beatles stuff, the docks and the history of Liverpool. I'd like to take a ferry cross the Mersey! We're not big drinkers or partyers... More a walk around and a coffee... Not hipsters eitherGrin
Can anyone think of anything cheap worth seeing?

Liverpool is very compact so you can walk to loads of attractions. We love the cathedrals and Georgian Quarter for a bit of a wander.
Friends went recently and did a walking tour of the city, took a couple of hours and was really informative, more so than the bus tours

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/06/2019 20:50

The Maritime museum is free, and excellent.

We recently went to the Western Approaches war museum, which was good and a bit different. I think it was £10 each.

Both cathedrals are worth a visit.

You could get the train to Crosby (costs pennies) for the Anthony Gormley statues (free) - but watch out for the quick sand. I absolutely ruined my trainers and had to buy new ones!

Tate always worth a browse.

Lots of restaurants on Bold Street, none of which are really expensive.

Ted27 · 30/06/2019 21:21

Ferry across the Mersey is a must!

For something s bit different there is a behind the scenes tour of the Mersey Tunnel which is on Tues, Weds, Thursday evenings, takes two hours, starts about 5/5.30 and costs about £8. A great bit of unseen history of Liverpool

Ted27 · 30/06/2019 21:26

As you are in Sefton, the Williamson Tunnels at smithdown road, cost about £5

SkintAsASkintThing · 30/06/2019 21:29

The arthouse hotel is amazing value for money........it's a themed hotel but not tacky at all and owned by the same people that have the Shankly etc We loved it. You can get a room with a huge jacuzzi bath for around £90 a night midweek.......we've had them as low as £70 tho. Rooms also have a little kitchen area with a fridge which is handy.

SkintAsASkintThing · 30/06/2019 21:30

And if you're going on the ferry get a saveaway ticket. It covers all buses and trains in Merseyside including the ferry. Unlimited travel for about £7 each.

tararabumdeay · 30/06/2019 22:28

Crosby Beach - Another Place - is perfectly unforgettable.
