What conditions does Britney Spears have?

There was something on the TV about Britney Spears the other day and I was just wondering what mental health conditions she has- I’ve seen reports saying she has bipolar but then Simon Cowell said she had ADHD when she was a judge on X factor. When she had her breakdown it was reported then that she had a personality disorder and bulimia. She obviously copes with so much, I have a lot of respect for her. She seems well now which is so great. Sorry if this is a strange thread, I’ve just always found her really interesting!

Honestly, no idea. A google search doesn't show anything but even if it's been speculated about in the past, it doesn't mean she has it. A tabloid running a story from a source stating a personality disorder doesn't mean it's a clinical diagnosis if you see what I mean? None of our business either, to be fair. It's between her and her doctors.

She could have many co-morbid issues (a personality disorder and ADHD etc) but we never truly know what someone else is suffering with unless they tell us which, so far as a quick Google goes, she hasn't said.

Personally I think she needs to retire from the limelight and retreat somewhere to heal as you can clearly see in her face there’s something not ‘right’. She’s not got the same sparkle in her eye that she used to have. Her days on X Factor USA showed this. She did a carpool karaoke with James Corden once and she looked uncomfortable on that too. I don’t know what medically is ‘wrong’ with her but you just have to hope she’s ok and life treats her well as she gets older.

Surely that’s between her and her doctors.

@SmellbowSmellbow123 I thought she looked uncomfortable on carpool karaoke too, she didn’t look to confident singing in the car. I thought she looked really well on her Vegas residency- I saw her there in 2015 and thought she looked really confident and well but when I saw her in London last year i thought she looked slightly anxious. I really hope she keeps well too as she gets older.

@Sarahjconnor i hadn’t realised she’d spoken about her bipolar. She posted an Instagram video recently talking about her colour coordinated wardrobe and she did seem a little manic in that- her pressure of speech seemed quite bad. I really hope she’s ok

Britney is a former child-star. A lot of them seem plagued with poor mental health in adulthood.

Coincidentally, Hollywood doesn't seem to have a strong tradition of ironclad safeguarding policies...

I feel sorry for celebrities who come 'out' about their health issues, because although it is helpful to raise awareness, it gives so much fodder for people and media to speculate and discuss ad nauseam about every tiny thing they do or say "must be because" of their [xyz mental condition] Like being under a microscope.

daisychain01 · 30/06/2019 12:03

I really hope she’s ok

No you don't! You just want to speculate about her. I bet you won't give her a second thought tomorrow, you'll be getting on with your life. But you're happy to treat her conditions that she has to live and cope with, as open season for gossip and light entertainment today. Is that really a good way to think?

Sundancer77 · 30/06/2019 13:03

She hasn’t looked well for a long time, I remember seeing her in an interview on Johnathan Ross and she was almost robot like, really sad. She started out so young and who knows what’s happened to her over the years.

NewlymrsB31 · 30/06/2019 13:21

@daisychain01 I do hope she’s ok. I am bipolar and if she has it too I can’t even begin to imagine the strain being in the public eye like that would put on your mental health and how much it could potentially trigger an episode. So no I won’t spend all day tomorrow worrying about her but I really admire her strength. I genuinely do hope she’s ok in the same way that I hope that everyone with bipolar is able to manage their condition and live a healthy life. Of course when celebrities talk about their illnesses/conditions the general public and the press speculate when it really is nothing to do with them but when they have such a huge following/fan base people do talk about it, either to express concern or to gossip in some cases

Not trying to make light of Britney's health issues here, but I can honestly say that I'd be pretty uncomfortable too if I was trapped in a car with James Corden!
