I need to buy a gift for a lady in her early 60s. I need to avoid food and drink, as she has digestive problems. She'll be going away the following day, so not flowers or plants. I've given her toiletries before? Any ideas, probably looking at spending £8-13. I do have a good quality £6 hand cream, which I could just add a small something to though.

If she's off on holiday, a summer holiday style book, there are lots of "Best summer reads" list around just now.

Things to help in a heatwave, Cool spray, Evian water spray, sunhat etc.

A book is a good idea.

Or a nice body spray to go with the hand cream. Body shop have some lovely body mists for around £8. I love the strawberry one.

Goodness, this is a challenge! I’m in my fifties and can scarcely think of a single non-edible thing ...

Oh! You’d be able to get two bars of Dr Bronner’s soap. Or, of course some other lovely soap. Erm ... A cinema ticket? Nail varnish and emery boards?

Essential oils. Depending on the brand and specific oil you could get either one or two. If she’s travelling then maybe some tea tree oil. Or peppermint.

As regards the book - I’d be thrilled with an old, used copy of some obscure childhood favourite - but it doesn’t sound as if you know her that well so, yes, maybe the latest prize winner in a subject she’s interested in.
