Is a quote binding?

So, have found a holiday on line (advertised with a large, well-known travel agency). Seemed like a good price, so got them to e-mail the quote - which was a total price for flights and all inclusive accomodation. Received the e-mail - which was exactly the same price as was being advertised on the website. All good, so then tried to go ahead with the booking...but the Company now say the price advertised was a mistake and they won't make the booking at that price. They want to to charge well over £1000 more! Well, we don't have that kind of money, so it looks like holiday is not going to happen, but are they allowed to advertise something and then not sell at the advertised price? Can anyone offer any advice please? Thank you!

Tricky - a quote is supposed to be binding . But technically they don't have any obligation to sell you anything if they don't want to .

No sorry. It's not a contract, I'm a lawyer, albeit not in contract specifically but basically any offer like that is technically an 'invitation to treat' it's your invitation to initiate custom with them and what happens after that is between the two parties.

It's the same reason there's no legal obligation on a shop to sell to you at an incorrect ticket price, it's an urban legend Grin although it's not legally obliged it might be good customer service though!

It would be lovely if they decided to go down the 'good customer service' route...but don't suppose they will. It just feels like such a swizz!

If it sounds too good to be true, there's usually a catch or a mistake.
