Work placement fallen through - Gloucestershire

Slatkater · 28/06/2019 17:47

My daughter (15) was due to do 5 days work experience with a freelance make up artist starting on the 1st July. Unfortunately the lady she was going to work with has been in hospital (genuinely)and is now unable to have her during this week.

So I am looking for a back up plan now the placement has fallen through. She is interested in make-up and the beauty industry, but with this short notice any thing would great.

I am Cheltenham/Gloucester area but would be willing to travel.

Thanks
HELP

Bump for the shire.

TeenTimesTwo · 28/06/2019 18:25

Have you/she tried any local department stores that have makeup/beauty studios?

Or cold calling / emailing anyone who advertises makeup services for weddings?

Related could be local spa hotels.

Even some one off days at this point could be helpful.
She could go round herself tomorrow with you prepping her in the background.

Slatkater · 28/06/2019 18:36

I’ve tried everywhere, spas, department stores, hairdressers/beauty salons, make up artists, colleges etc etc. It was hard enough trying to find something the first time around. The lady who agreed to offer her a placement would have been great as she did top catwalk shows, photo shoots and weddings.

Thanks for the bump and suggestions.

@MelBurke thanks for the suggestions. Have already tried some of those but will look at the others apart from Brockworth Beauty Spot. Terrible reputation.

Chelt/Glos too - so sending good luck.

Our work experience kid finished today, but in an engineering firm.

So hard to find people that will take work experience these days due to all the paperwork, health and safety etc. My ds does his next week in the workshop of a major car dealership. Most of his class haven't managed to secure anything and it is only because we know someone there we have managed to get him in. I hope you manage to get her something.

ifonly4 · 29/06/2019 10:33

Maybe not quite what she's looking for but Skin Deep in Bishops Cleeve do things like manicures, waxing. It's a small place, but if she offered to do cleaning, reception to help fill out her time if she can't fit in on some appointments, it might be worth trying.

Slatkater · 29/06/2019 11:26

@pinkmagic1, you’re not wrong. It took me forever to find the first placement. So was delighted when I got so good and daughter was really looking forward to it. ☹️

@ifonly4 thanks

Not an ideal fix, but could she do a week with the original lady over the summer holidays ( to get the real experiences she's after). Then just do something for the next week to 'fill the time'.

As I say not ideal, but it might solve the problem in a roundabout way?

Slatkater · 30/06/2019 16:26

Yes @widgetbeana the lady has offered to do some stuff with her at a later date.
