Frozen chicken

I've got a whole frozen chicken in my freezer, use by date 6 Feb.

It was frozen before the use by date, but the care label says

'freeze within the use by date. Use within one month.'

Does that mean I should have defrosted and eaten it by 6 March? Will I die if I freeze and cook it now?

I don't even want to eat a roast chicken but I need to clear my freezer!

The stars on your freezer will affect how long it’s good for. Tbh I’d go for it, you can smell an off chicken a mile off so you’ll know.

If your freezers done its job then it'll be fine. I don't think I've ever paid attention to labels when freezing stuff.

Defrost it and plan to cook it. You’ll know if you shouldn’t cook it when it’s defrosted. I’m sure I’ve kept chicken longer than that in the freezer and it’s been fine

1 month is very conservative. It should keep for several months. Quality may deteriorate but it won't be dangerous

As long as it was dead before you put it in the freezer it will be fine.

As someone else said over time frozen food loses quality but it still remains safe to eat. I would eat it without hesitation.

Thanks everyone, I thought it would be fine but started to worry myself.

I thought they were supposed to stop putting crap like that on labels because it encourages food waste.

OP, honestly, it will probably be fine in February next year, or the year after that. If it's not wrapped up very well, it might get a bit dried out, but as long as your freezer is working as it should, it will be safe for quite a long time.
