Suncream for allergies?

womanaf · 28/06/2019 01:10

I’ve never figured out what exactly I’m allergic to but most suncreams make my eyes/nose stream and eventually cause a headache.

I found a brand that was working (Banana Boat) but I opened a new bottle of that today and I’ve reacted to it so I’m guessing they’ve changed the formula.

Anyone know of any likely brands for me to try? They need to be cheap enough that I can slather all of us in it, so it’s probably not going to be a vegan/organic product.

Thanks.

I use sunsense on my daughter. It's not a cream but a clear spray. I buy it on Amazon

DateBanana · 28/06/2019 03:29

The Green Peoples Children’s cream is great

Sunsense or child’s farm :)

We used the soltan kids sensitive last time we were in the UK.

I'm allergic to Ambre Solaire, amongst others, but ok with Nivea and Soltan. It's just been a case of trial and error to work out what doesn't affect my eczema.

DS has eczema and I was using Organii on him as it was the only one I'd found not to react on his skin (but not the cheapest!). Used some of the boots own brand kids on him one day from a friend when I'd unexpectedly run out, and to my surprise he didn't react, so we use that now!

Her DS also has sensitive skin, and when she bought it the sales assistant in Boots told her they'd refund her if he reacted to it, so might be worth a go?

DC have sensitive skin & I use either Child's Farm or Ladival.

E45 suncream is the only one my aunt can use - she is allergic to the sun and sun cream. The e45 one is a physical barrier suncream rather than chemical.

Altruist (from Amazon) is developed by dermatologists. I got some as DS2 has eczema but we all use it now as it's so much nicer to put on than anything else I've used (not greasy at all). The spray isn't good though, just the cream!

cakeandchampagne · 28/06/2019 10:51

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunscreen.

YukoandHiro · 28/06/2019 10:55

My daughter has eczema and we've had a battle finding one for her. Previously we used Green People, as others have mentioned, but I didn't like that it was only factor 30.

Someone on a kids allergy forum recommended Altruist Dermatologist. You can only buy it online (Amazon) but it's not too expensive and it's brilliant - no flare ups and no accidental burn patches so far this year. I guess the big test will be tomorrow but I would highly recommend.

curlycat · 28/06/2019 10:57

My DS cones out in a rash with every sumcream apart from Calypso. You get it in Home Bargains or Bodycare.

chloesmumtoo · 28/06/2019 11:08

Dd has had reactions to sunsense, soltan and ambre solaire! Has been found allergic to certain sun cream components. The consultant pointed us in the direction of Altruist (Aready mentioned) as it doesn't contain some igredients dd reacts to. We have purchased some but not used yet.

womanaf · 28/06/2019 13:11

Can any of you using Sunsense, Neutrogena or Altruist tell me if they have that very recognisable suncream smell?

Thanks for all these suggestions.

Nivea, Soltan, Ambre Solaire are all on my shit list.

Both ds and I have skin reactions to sun cream. Trial and error has found he is fine with Lloyd's pharmacy own brand children's sensitive skin cream. I am fine with Piz Bruin Sun sensitive cream.

fizzyfizz · 28/06/2019 13:54

Altruist smells like unscented moisturiser (IMO). Wouldn't say it has a typical sun cream smell.

cakeandchampagne · 28/06/2019 20:36

Neutrogena has a light, pleasant scent. Maybe you could contact the company and see if they will send a small sample to you?

m0therofdragons · 28/06/2019 21:10

Dd is allergic to something in sun cream - face puffs up. I'm allergic to salycilates which are in most sun creams. Banana boat was my go to but now I use green people for dd and I and both are fine with it.

RainbowMum11 · 28/06/2019 21:44

I have found sunsense to be the only cream DD doesn't react to, but haven't tried Childs Farm yet - we use their shampoo etc because of DDs sensitive skin so will try to find it & give it a go.

womanaf · 29/06/2019 22:23

Thank you all. Some good ideas here - especially the asking for samples! 😀
