Felixstowe - any Mumsnetters live there?

I’m thinking of moving there and have visited many times.
I love it, but want to know what it’s like to live there.

I’m looking to buy and will have a budget of £250-£300k which I know will get me a 2/3 bedroom property.

Are the schools any good? I’m interested in primaries at the moment but which high school to Felixstowe kids go to?

Are there any decent pubs? (Blush)

If you live there do you like it?

Just bumping for you OP

hellololabells2019 · 28/06/2019 19:52

I'm in Felixstowe
There are good pubs. Primary schools are location dependant and secondary not so good but that can change quickly

I'm not local but moved there 8 years ago and love it

PM me for more info

I love it and visit whenever I can; I aim to move there

Nomchonge · 28/06/2019 21:20

I grew up there and wouldn’t move back there for all the money in the world.

The high school is very poor and primary’s hit and miss.

Some areas are nice enough but the bad areas are not places you would want to live. The town centre is in decline with high shop turnover. My family goes to Norwich or Bury to shop as you wouldn’t want to shop in Ipswich either.

I wouldn’t want my kids growing up there as Ipswich (the town we all travelled to to hang out in as teens) has become rough with rival gangs.

If you are prepared to move there are so many beautiful places to live.

Thanks for your responses (and the bump EstherMumsnet).

Some differences of opinion!

I’ve lived in a supposedly nice place most of my life. People aspire to live here, but I can’t wait to move out due to huge population growth and a no-go town at night.
I suppose everywhere has an underbelly!

Did you stay in Suffolk @Nomchonge?

@hellololabells2019 I will PM you, cheers!

There are some beautiful parts in felixstowe and some not so nice! I don't know it well enough to give guidance and you may feel a bit cut off but I love being there!

Nomchonge · 29/06/2019 17:19

@TightPants
No I left Suffolk. I’d consider moving back to the Framlingham or Aldeburgh part of Suffolk.

The only people I know who stayed living in Felixstowe are the ones who couldn’t imagine leaving their ‘network’ and family.

All the others left after uni and haven’t looked back.

I think that visiting somewhere and living there are very different and I think that it won’t live up to your expectations at all.

Hello - I'm moving to Felixstowe in the spring and am rather nervous as I've just read a load of really negative things on here!
Does anyone else have anything positive to say about it? (Our rental property is all sorted out so it's definitely happening).

ChampagneCommunist · 15/10/2019 16:11

Still love it! Felixstowe Ferry is my favourite area

Branleuse · 15/10/2019 16:18

I dont live too far from there, although dont live there. I think its got some lovely old houses, its got most facilities you need and it has good beach and swimming pool. If you already know you like it, then you could probably be very happy there. I know some people who didnt like it because they suffered a lot of racism at the high school - its not a very multicultural area. That may or may not be relevent.

AppleB2 · 15/10/2019 16:49

Thank you both. That's makes me feel more reassured. I'm not coming to Felixstowe with rose-tinted glasses but when I visited it last month to go to the local school open evening, I loved the beachfront and the town looked nice too (although my visit was rather brief).

I suppose it is what you make it. Too late to back out now anyway!
