Hello Mums and Dads,

My husband my 2 year old daughter and 1 are looking to relocate from the bust hustle and bustle of London to Lightwater, Surrey. We have seen properties in Ascot, Bagshot, Windlesham and Lightwater and have decided that we can get more bang for our buck in Lightwater, plus we have fallen in love with a property in the area. I was just wondering what it was like to live in the area. It doesn't seem to be a well known area. what is it like for a young professional family to live in the area, is the area safe, good school, etc. Any information you can provide will be much appreciated. Thank You.

Good access to M3, nice schools only 1 pub and a working man's club. But great country park and great Church, lots of groups and social groups. Really nice area if you want to pm me the road I can give more detailed feedback. Bad for public transport as only buses and closest train is on the annoying Camberley Ascot line so you have to change to get anywhere it's an hour to Waterloo from Bagshot.

Secondary education all needs to travel either to Camberley area or Woking area.

You can look up info on state achools here:

Connaught Junior is dire. Hammond School better but you wouldn't ever call it desirable.

You’ll need to drive because there is very little in Lightwater. Schools are Collingwood and Kings in Camberley, Winston Churchill or Woking High the other way. Woking isn’t all that, Camberley is better now I think. Guildford is a lovely town, but public transport (bus) takes forever.

Ascot and Windlesham are very expensive and Bagshot is so close to the A30.

I live in West End so really close by. Lots of classes etc for preschool kids and primary aged children. The country park is a great space and the village has lots of community events and fetes etc. They even have one night where Santa visits Lightwater and follows a set route around the village waving to the kids.
The primary school is very good, I know two parents who have children their who speak highly of it.
The village has lots of shops and a few takeaways, one pub but the surrounding villages are littered with them.
Its good for the m3 but conversely if there is a problem on the m3 its hard to reach parts of the village. Closest mainline station is Woking which is less than 30 minutes to Waterloo. Camberley is also easily accessible for shopping and Guildford is under an hour away.

Considering moving to lightwater, what would commute be like from there to London Waterloo?
