Making a PPI claim

DP has told me he wants to make one and is doing so through some kind of company. I've heard that PPI isn't a good idea for future credit etc but I'm not sure of the details.

Anyone have any experience of this? Should he go ahead and claim?

Yes, go claim it. If you'd been over charged for anything else you'd seek a refund.

But don't use a claims management company.

Have a look at the “Which” website, they have a dedicated section for claims, it’s very straightforward and free.

Thank you! Can I ask why not use a company?

They take a chunk of money.
It's easy.

We used a claim company. They took about 25% of what our PPI refund, but they found stuff we would never have known about. If we had done it ourselves, we probably would have got back about £900. Even after their fees came out we got almost £2,000 back.

Go on MSE resolver website, it pretty much does it for you.

They take around 30% the compensation, and the process doesn't change whether you do it or they do it.

Money saving expert's website has a function called resolver, where you can register your details and where you had credit, and they'll email a complaint to the company and keep all your claims in one place for free.
