OCD - can’t get music out of my head

I’ve had a long day and my mind is going at 1000 miles an hour , and I’ve got music stuck in it - theme to the jungle book of all things, mundane enough but it’s distressing me now as I can ‘hear’ it over everything else . I need to silence or replace it somehow and I can’t figure out how . Trying to watch Miranda on TV but I can’t settle at all . If I try and colour or something or sleep it’s still there , won’t stop and I’m not sure what’s best ! Any advice at all I’d really really be grateful!

I have a huge jukebox in my head, very annoying. The only advice I've read, which can help, is to play the end of the song in your head rather than the chorus. HTH.

Watch this on repeat for half an hour and you’ll soon forget the Jungle Book.

OrgasmicScalp · 25/06/2019 21:24

Sounds weird but try and just let it play out a bit.. I get this with repetitive songs or thoughts and the more I try and ignore or stop it the worse it gets. So I sort of focus on it and let it have it's moment and that seems to settle it down for me..

Mstbe not half an hour as I suggested but listening to Badger Badger Badger over and over completely rids my mind of things that get stuck!

I get 'ear worms' and find if I start a different tune every time it starts it helps to break the cycle

LongDivision · 25/06/2019 21:38

You’re probably dehydrated. Drink some water.

Use your own voice - read out loud or in your head, sing etc

Dance

Replace it by playing some very different music - I once had the same 20 second advert song going through my head for 7 hours straight, I was working solo and felt like I was going insane by the time I finally got in my car and played some decent music! (The advert was that shite song that went with the puppets on the Travel Lodge advert - sadly apt as I was cleaning in a hotel at the time). I work elsewhere now and they let me have my headphones playing music all the time. Stops my OCD thoughts too, which is always a bonus!

I’ve got Spotify on now ... I feel weird in other ways too (dizzy, off balance, mood swings/tearfulness and have ‘seen’ things a couple of times) so wondering if I am a touch dehydrated or coming down with a UTI or something :

If you have OCD and hear a song in your head it is different from the average person ‘getting a song stuck in their head’. It’s not an earworm you can literally hear it as if it’s playing and it’s maddening!!! I totally relate OP!! Sad

My kryptonite is door bells, ringtones and sirens! It tends to fall into the Intrusive Thoughts/Pure O categories of OCD. I really don’t have any advice but didn’t want to read and run. I think distraction is your best bet but I know it’s not easy!
