Why are programmes / movies so dark?

Someone please tell me, why when they make a movie or a series and its night time they film it so dark? Why cant they just make it obvious its night time with a bit of light !?

I have to sit in the pitch black to see the flipping TV 🤣

I’ve no idea but it’s very annoying.

We tried to watch Godzilla when it was on TV a few weeks ago and i couldn’t tell you what was going on in the night scenes because it was so very very dark.
