What’s your budget? Are you buying or renting? Min bedrooms?

What about work for you, max commute?

PoppadomPeach · 23/06/2019 12:37

Where are you moving from? I did the move from London 7 years ago and haven't looked back!
I'm back down temporarily at the moment and miss it so much Sad

It's an amazing city. Safe, lots for children of all ages, a real sense of community, people are so friendly.

Areas really do vary. I suggest you look at some properties in different areas and come back to post when you've found somewhere - it's difficult to suggest 'areas' when you've given nothing else to go by.

I've lived right on the outskirts, in the city and now I'm over the water in the Wirral.
It's such a big place, you'd really need to give us some clue as to where you want to be!

YouWhoNeverArrived · 23/06/2019 13:09

Wirral has grammar schools but feels isolated from the rest of Merseyside.

Formby/Crosby/Hightown/Ainsdale would be the first places I'd scope out, budget permitting.

We need more information.
What is your budget, will you be renting or buying?
Will you need to commute?

Jemma30 · 23/06/2019 14:06

Il be renting budget is around 700/800 a month at the minute because im on maternity , moving from Yorkshire. Im a chef so will be looking to get back to work in November, i drive but not keen on motorways so if i can avoid them would be better lol
Iv seen some properties on Norris green village that i like the look of in my price range, but not heard great things about the area?
Im thinking to move over then when working i will have more options with were to live with more money coming in, but need to move quickly so girls can start school in September.
Im gonna over on Saturday to have a good look around

I wouldn't move to Norris Green. North Liverpool you have nice areas like Crosby, Lydiate, Maghull or even Ormskirk which is just inside West Lancs. South Liverpool you've got Aigburth, Lark Lane, Woolton. Depends what you want really and how close you want to be to the city.

brainfrying · 23/06/2019 14:13

Norris Green is awful, lots of gangs and shootings and you might end up in the wrong street. Also avoid Croxteth, Toxteth, Bootle, Litherland, Netherton, Speke. Crosby is lovely and right on the beach but it might be out of your budget. Neighbouring Waterloo might be a good bet for you. Allerton, Woolton, Aigburth are nice.

bottleofbeer · 23/06/2019 14:21

Avoid litherland but try Waterloo? Seriously? Waterloo is not the place it was.

PineappleTits · 23/06/2019 14:26

Liverpool area I would say aigburth, Woolton, childwall. Sefton area I would say Crosby and possibly Waterloo - there's south road which has loads of bars and restaurants so could be good for work opportunities. then you can head further out to formby and ormskirk. These areas do tend to be more expensive than the likes of dingle & Norris green for a reason. I agree with what PP have said regarding areas to avoid, I would add to that Walton and Anfield. You'll probably find a lot of cheap property on county road and there's a reason why it's cheap. Avoid.

BitOfFun · 23/06/2019 14:39

Waterloo, couldn't escape if I wanted to!

And why would I? It's a fantastic place to live: great schools, one of the last remaining genuinely independent high streets, an amazing Art Deco community cinema, every cuisine you can think of, close to the beach, glorious sunsets, great rail and bus links into the city (17 minutes away), wonderful community atmosphere...

And some beautiful housing stock at a very reasonable price.

purplereindeer · 23/06/2019 14:39

This is in a lovely spot!

This is ok, bit less naice though.

It depends on what you want from the area though, I live in part of Toxteth that has a strong sense of community, everyone is friendly and helps each other, poor area but lovely people and an excellent primary school. I totally get that it wouldn't be for everyone though!

Auntpetunia2015 · 23/06/2019 14:50

Having gone to school in Norris Green and still having lots of friends there..I’d say..keep away. Lots of problems on the area and lots of gun crime. How big a house do you want/need for 4 girls ? How many bedrooms. That will determine where you live. Areas with big old Victorian 4 beds tend to be in tougher areas. Though a trawl on rightmove finds property in Allerton L18 postcode which is a very nice area good schools and good transport links to City. Also lots of bars and restaurants local which may help you. L22 (Waterloo) lots of big houses. Lovely area right by the beach and access to some amazing schools also good transport links to City via train. Further afield and more suburban are Maghull l31 post code bit bland and boring I’d say but nice area. Feel free to ask about any other areas. How old are your girls? That will have an impact on schools.

Liverpool is an amazing city and you will be made very welcome wherever you live.

Jemma30 · 23/06/2019 15:04

Thank you everyone this is so very helpful :) I will need a 3 bedroom house for now. My girls are aged 14 , 13 ,5 and 2 months.
So childwall? what schools are good near there?

Jemma30 · 23/06/2019 15:06

Purpleraindeer where is a lovely spot?

Auntpetunia2015 · 23/06/2019 15:11

Jemma if you click on the word “this” in purples post its a link to a house in Allerton.

Childwall is expensive. And Purple is right some of the roughest areas have amazing schools and community spirit. You need to visit a go around areas to see how you feel about them. Some parts of L9 which is Walton and Aintree are lovely have great schools both high and primary.

You need to decided what you want from a house (garden parking etc ) and then see what rightmove gives in the way of property and then research (ask us on MN!) the areas.

BitOfFun · 23/06/2019 15:15

Or just accept that you can't do better than Waterloo? WinkGrin

Nonstopbuttmachine · 23/06/2019 15:33

BitOfFun Waterloo is fab, I left there 15 years ago and miss it! I was there briefly in February and South Road has changed so much (Wetherspoons?!) but so pleased to see Tony Almonds is still there 😂😂

Takingabreakagain · 23/06/2019 15:36

Something like this house in Waterloo maybe? Three beds £725pcm, Close to a park, the beach, good schools, shops, restaurants, public transport (trains and buses), cinema etc.

Auntpetunia2015 · 23/06/2019 15:37

I’ve lived in Waterloo for the last 15 years it’s a lovely area. Not sure what you mean bitoffun

creamofcarnation · 23/06/2019 15:39

What about Southport ?

BitOfFun · 23/06/2019 16:37

I just mean that it love it, Aunt Petunia! I feel very lucky to live in Waterloo.

YouWhoNeverArrived · 23/06/2019 22:06

Waterloo is a good suggestion for that price point.

Tony Almonds has been there all my life, I think Grin

The funeral director "RS Cape" always cracks me up!

Avoid Norris Green like the plague. I agree Aintree may be worth a look though. Holy Rosary is a nice primary school.

BitOfFun · 23/06/2019 22:08

Ha! I thought I was the only person to chuckle at R.S.Cape Grin

YouWhoNeverArrived · 23/06/2019 22:41

This thread is making me homesick Blush Moved away a few years ago to look after a member of DH's family who needed us to be nearby. Hoping to be able to move back home in a couple of years when circumstances change. We'll be looking at Formby, I think, but I appreciate OP's budget won't stretch that far.

GeneandFred · 24/06/2019 00:20

I actually live on the NGV Estate and it's lovely.
