West Derby might be better re your girls & getting a late decent school. West Derby is a reasonable area too.
A lot of the schools an earlier poster listed are selective (music or 11+ or C of E attendance) and are massively oversubscribed, particularly this year with the bulge Year 7 population.
The state schools non-selective in WD seem to perform at UK average levels Grade 5 and above 5 GCSES incl Eng &Maths.
Crosby has decent secondary schools too. Otherwise there aren't really any areas in Liverpool that you can buy a house and be assured of a decent secondary school. Even in the most expensive areas like Woolton/Calderstones.

Agree with previous posters re Woolton (L25), Allerton/Mossley Hill (L18), Childwall (L16) and Aigburth (L18) as being lovely places to live. Wavertree (L15) also has some lovely parts but some areas are a bit tatty, it tends to be less expensive there too.

FairySunbath · 26/06/2019 16:03

Sorry, Aigburth is L17.

Jemma30 · 26/06/2019 16:25

Where is L14 then? Because it says its childwall on the property listing

BitOfFun · 26/06/2019 16:39

I thought it was Norris Green/Dovecote.

Nemesia1264 · 26/06/2019 16:41

Broadgreen
I think Jubilee Avenue is fine. Is it the new estate by the M62? Or older houses?
You would be in the catchment area for Broadgreen International school , which is not a great school tbh. Childwall Comprehensive would be better for your teens. Are you catholic? There are 2 schools -Broughton Hall / St Julie's that serve L14 but they may be full.

The primary schools tend to be fine wherever in Liverpool.

Nemesia1264 · 26/06/2019 16:42

Parts of L14 are Dovecot or Knotty Ash which come under Knowsley council rather than Liverpool IFYSWIM.
Not L14 Jubilee Ave though, that's definitely Liverpool.

soccerbabe · 26/06/2019 16:42

I would consider L14 to be Broadgreen/Knotty Ash. So very near Childwall, but I wouldn't call it Childwall. Personally I would be OK with the Jubilee Avenue area - it's the new houses just behind BroadGreen station IIRC. Not the most vibrant area for shopping/eating out, but it will do, and v convenient for train travel into the centre.

BitOfFun · 26/06/2019 16:46

Ah, I’m mixing up my Norris Greens and Knotty Ashes! My grandad used to live in Knotty Ash. It was really depressing, but that was thirty years ago, so perhaps it’s changed?

Nemesia1264 · 26/06/2019 16:50

Norris Green is L11
Knotty Ash is a very different type of area, Ken Dodd lives there so it must be respectable!

YouAndMeAreGoingToFallOut · 26/06/2019 16:57

My mum lived in Knotty Ash for twenty years until a couple of years ago. It was OK - she never had any trouble there. But it doesn't have much going for it: it's not pretty, it doesn't have a lot in the way of amenities and it isn't nice to walk around.

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 26/06/2019 17:06

Ok so your main challenge is going to be getting your secondary aged kids in to schools. I'd start with where can have them and work out where to live from there. I'd ring Liverpool and Sefton Councils and find out what they have first. You'd be highly unlikely to get into any of the schools Unruly suggests at this stage as they are all massively oversubscribed, but you never know if you move right to their doorstep. Wirral's more complicated because of the grammar system.

Big up to the Waterloo massive on here - GREAT place to live. Train 18 mins to town. Gives you lots of school options.

(purple I think I can guess where you live.. I love Toxteth too)

EnidButton · 26/06/2019 17:08

BOF What's the RS Cape joke please? I'm a bit slow today but it'll bug me all night trying to work it out. Our Escape?

YouWhoNeverArrived · 26/06/2019 17:36

@enidbutton Yes, they're a funeral director and they're called "Our Escape". Amused me when I lived nearby!

FairySunbath · 26/06/2019 19:27

There's also Bellerive Catholic College which is a girl's secondary school. I have a daughter there and we're very happy with our choice. The school has 4 buses that bring in pupils from all over the city.

YouWho Ah thank you! I've just said it out loud in a (slightly dodgy Brookside-esque) Liverpudlian accent and I get it now. Grin Great name.

BitOfFun · 26/06/2019 23:41

Glad you found out in the end, Enid Grin

Jemma, make sure you come and see Waterloo and the beach!

Jemma30 · 27/06/2019 12:32
