Does this hotel exist?

Possibly a stupid question but I’m just trying to book a hotel and I think it might not be real.

It’s called Nosara Beach Hotel. It’s on Booking.com and has it’s own website. It’s not on Tripadvisor. If you google ‘Nosara Beach Hotel’ one of the suggested words that comes up after it is ‘abandoned’. If you then search for that there are lots of photos from 2012-13 of it all abandoned.

But it could have been refurbished since then. No mention of it having been refurbished or reopened on its website though.

What do you think? Or, possibly grasping at straws slightly, does anyone know the area and know if it’s open?

Oooooh a mystery! Is it on Google maps?

NoHotelMotelHolidayInn · 22/06/2019 22:01

Ooh, I hadn’t thought of google maps. Off to search now.

Google maps shows me this. I can’t really tell from that if it’s abandoned or not.

The photo of a nearby hotel shows the pool as being a very different colour. I think maybe the pool is empty in the other one which is why it’s a lot darker.

It's been on booking.com since December 2018 (you get that info on the desktop version). It does talk of being revived and restored on it's own website - possibly ongoing as the terra mar suites are "coming soon"

NoHotelMotelHolidayInn · 22/06/2019 22:11

Oh, so it does! Thank you so much dropzoneone. I hadn’t noticed that bit at the bottom when I looked at the website, I thought that page was just photos.

Woo hoo, I’m going to book it now.

There's reviews on booking.com too - mix of nationalities, but some from this month so looks open to me.

Greenolivesorblackolives · 22/06/2019 22:13

I found this one on trip advisor www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g656474-d1013430-Reviews-Nosara_Beach_House-Nosara_Province_of_Guanacaste.html

Greenolivesorblackolives · 22/06/2019 22:16

Sorry just realised its beach house not hotel.

NoHotelMotelHolidayInn · 22/06/2019 22:16

green I think that’s a different place - Beach House rather than Beach Hotel.

I googled “nosara beach hotel refurb” and got this:

www.nosarabeachhotel.com

Is this the one?

SmellbowSmellbow123 · 22/06/2019 22:19

No then if it’s House rather than Hotel!!

NoHotelMotelHolidayInn · 23/06/2019 17:31

That is the website of the hotel I was looking at smellbow. I just thought it odd that there was no mention of the refurbishment considering it looks like it was well known as being in ruins. There is one sentence in there though that dropzone spotted so I’m feeling reassured now.

I’ll let you know in a few months if I turn up there and there’s nothing there!

I rented an apartment in Poland once (from booking.com) for me and my DD. The taxi dropped us off “nearby” as the driver didn’t know where it was. We wandered round, ended up in a shop who pointed out the building site behind us and said “there”. The block of flats was built but only one flat in the whole building was complete. We were shown there by a large scary man. It all felt really sinister (anyone who’s seen “hostel” will be able to imagine what was going on in my head!). It was late at night and dark so we just had to stay. Ended up barricading ourselves in the bedroom with the knife block from the kitchen! We laugh about it now but it was scary at the time.
