So annoying. I planted peas and beans in pita last year and worked well. Did it again this year and the plants are being shredded! I can't see any aphid on them. In fact in the pea pot I can't see anything at all on my broad beans there are lots of ants but from what I read these won't be eating it?

Probably pigeons - you need netting over young peas. And everything else, tbh.

Oh interesting! We do have pigeons and I did wonder why there were full on chunks out the leaves not just nibbles although we do have some of those too. Damn I just sprayed the plants with soapy water thinking it must be aphids. Should I water them now with normal water?!

How come they didn't eat them last year?!

Pigeons.

Whisky2014 · 22/06/2019 15:21

It honestly didn't even cross my mind it would be pigeons.
So I think they've pretty much eaten anything on my peas that would have turned into a pea and left some stems and have eaten leaves. Is there any hope I'll get peas?!

Wood pigeons, more specifically.

They may not have spotted them last year, or th e plants may have been bigger when you planted them out - they only want smallish plants as they are more tender.

Nets asap or they will wreck them. Wigeons are a major agricultural pest.

Yes, they are wood pigeons! Bugger. Ok will get netting tomorrow.
