Article here

As a voter, I want to know what's going on here.

I suspect it's like Trump and David Cameron before him. There's literally nothing these men could do to women, livestock or any other 'non-man' that could now threaten their position. That's the world we're living in.

RuffleCrow · 22/06/2019 07:51

The "get off my fucking laptop" is interesting though. Sounds like she may have been trying to do the country a favour.

Happysummer2020 · 22/06/2019 07:55

How predictable! The stop Boris campaign begins!

It is predictable because he's a self serving ass- so we can safely predict that people will criticise him. What's your point exactly?

SunsetBunny · 22/06/2019 07:57

This is like when there’s a road traffic collision and people in the vicinity think they know what happened, but they only heard a bang and didn’t actually see anything.

I hope I never find myself on trial with some of you on the jury!

Not a Boris fan either.

Smellbowpenisbeaker · 22/06/2019 07:59

We’ve got more than enough on BJ to say he’s not equipped to be PM, aside from this. Apparently no one cares.

Hotterthanahotthing · 22/06/2019 08:01

If I heard an altercation next door my instincts would not be to record it and call a national newspaper.
Also how did the Guardian have the incident number before they contacted to police.

Helmetbymidnight · 22/06/2019 08:02

I hope I never find myself on trial with some of you on the jury!

how do you mean? you dont think there is enough evidence that shows boris is ammoral and feckless? Hmm

the thing is the cons love him. 'this is a non issue' if bj and her staged this to make him look even more of an arsehole, it didnt work.

Helmetbymidnight · 22/06/2019 08:04

If I heard an altercation next door my instincts would not be to record it and call a national newspaper

so what are you saying? it didnt happen?

Passthecherrycoke · 22/06/2019 08:10

I hope I never find myself on trial with some of you on the jury!

Believe me, the chances are high you’ll end up with jurors a lot, lot worse than your average mumsnetter

RunDeBumBum · 22/06/2019 08:15

Who knows, I wasn't there and I don't know the full facts 🤷🏻‍♀️

Hopefully if there is a grain of truth in it, she will press charges and the investigation will go from there.

Oliversmumsarmy · 22/06/2019 08:17

Hinchunup

Domestic abuse protocol?

Friend has an injunction out on her abusive stbexh. It is not worth the paper it is printed in because the police are just not that interested.

Stbexh tried to gain entry to her house one night.
She called the police trying to get them to come out to her whilst he was hammering in the door and shouting and cursing her.

He left after an hour or so.

She had recorded the incident on her phone. No picture as it was dark.

Police came round in the morning, many hours after he had left.

They took a statement from her and took a statement from him where he denied ever having been there.
They said it was one word against the other and the recording could have been recorded at an earlier date when they were together and they were play acting.

I am surprised at 3 police cars turning up in the amount of time they did.

That is definitely not normal.

FionasWineShow · 22/06/2019 08:21

I hope I never find myself on trial with some of you on the jury!

For God's sake. There are not enough of these emojis >>>>> 🙄

In case it's not blindingly obvious - this is a discussion forum, where people can say whatever they want/think.

tatkin · 22/06/2019 08:35

Can I tell you my Boris story?

A couple of points though:

I am a journalist at a reputable news organisation (the leader, you could say) and I know the Guardian (and its editor) and they wouldn't have paid for this story. They only pay expenses in very specific cases as part of investigative storylines (eg Greenwald) And the police have corroborated it.

Who knows if this was a one-off or whether the neighbour thought to record the fight this time? When people have these sorts of fights

Given that she's a John Worboys victim (it was her intervention that got his parole turned around) you'd think he'd have more class and not act in a bullying manner. I.e. leave when asked.

I knew a few of the Brexiteers (Rees-Mogg, Hannan) at university because I had a post at the Union Society one year. I have followed their careers with bemusement at first, then horror.

Anyway, I was working in Grays Inn Rd and my friend wanted to tell me something personal out of earshot of colleagues so we went to a cafe and chose the downstairs, which looked empty. A few minutes in our attention was grabbed by a couple at the other end who were getting increasingly aerated. Well, I say that but the woman (small, dark-haired ultra posh) was very upset and the crying gathered momentum and rendered our conversation impossible. I recognised the man from his hair - Boris was older than me but well known from my Union time and as editor of the Spectator, which was around the corner.

He was making 'shush dear, shush' 'oh for god's sake women' noises and she was getting more and more upset. It really was something. He kept on at her to shut up and to stop being "ridiculous" but was also quite wheedling, It was odd. People coming downstairs turned on their heels. We had to leave in the end.

Anyhow, thought nothing of it until it came out that he'd had an affair with Petronella Wyatt (daughter of Lord Deedes of the Telegraph and inspiration for Evelyn Waugh's Boot in Scoop) and had demanded she get an abortion.

So that row must have been one of those arguments to get her to See Sense.

Staying classy Alexander B !!!!

Owlsintowels · 22/06/2019 08:48

Maybe the neighbour who made the recording thought the electorate had a right to know that Boris is an abusive bully before voting him in? Maybe that's what motivated them instead of money?

People living in this area of London are probably already quite wealthy

All those saying this is made up: the facts are pretty clear. The police were called, there was a very loud argument, among the things said were shouts of 'get off me' and noises heard include loud banging and crashing and breaking noises

Just pretend it isn't Boris for a minute. Pretend this is a normal AIBU. Presented with the above, and aware there is a significant add e gap and imbalance of power in the relationship, would you seriously say there is no risk of harm?

Police statement saying 'nothing to see here', how many times have police been called out to domestic abuse and left with a similar conclusion?

I'm not saying he was belting her.

I am saying that given he's likely to be in charge of our country at the most challenging time in our history in the last couple of generations, don't we have a right to hear whether he is a bully / wife beater / drunkard? Surely this needs to be investigated before it's too late?

Or would you really rather put your fingers in your ears, say lalalala and let him represent us all at the international table? Just because he's got fluffy hair and like to quote in Latin and looks jolly good fun?

longwayoff · 22/06/2019 12:00

She's shacked up with our future Prime Minister and currently collecting plaudits for transforming him into something acceptable. The likelihood of her insisting on charges being brought is less than zero. He's a project and there's reward at the end of it. This is a hiccup. Now where are those keys to No 10?

Burpsandrustles · 22/06/2019 13:01

Also wonder about laptop it's intriguing!

Could have just been communicating with ex wife or children bitching.

Doesn't bode well for no ten 😕😕...

Screaming arguments!!

Thymeout · 22/06/2019 13:19

Some minor corrections: it's not a million £ house. It's a converted semi-detached Victorian villa. Symonds has the first floor flat. Bought it last year for £650,000. The neighbours who recorded the row are not the only witnesses. Another neighbour and a passer-by also heard what went on.

The idea that it was a set-up is ridiculous. When the police initially denied it, the Guardian rang again with details of the incident number and police cars attending, which they presumably got from the neighbour who contacted them. As pp said, it's extremely unlikely that they paid for the story.

This is the man who called reports of a 2/3 year long affair with Petronella Wyatt, involving an abortion, 'an inverted pile of piffle' and was sacked by Michael Howard for lying to him on the subject.

All those supporting him while making fun of the Americans for electing Trump should take a good look at themselves in the mirror.

Whosorrynow · 22/06/2019 13:23

Many of trump's supporters admire him for the fact that he is a sexual predator, lots of men love the idea of a man who just does as he pleases and gets away with it they see a man like that as a real man, presumably the same will apply to Boris, some men secretly admire and would like to emulate him

midsomermurderess · 22/06/2019 13:23

Some of these comments remind of what Hannah Arendt said: 'One of the greatest advantages of the totalitarian elites of the twenties and thirties was to turn any statement of fact into a question of motive'.

Helmetbymidnight · 22/06/2019 13:24

i think it impresses lots of (strange) women too...

Isatis · 22/06/2019 13:27

If I heard an altercation next door my instincts would not be to record it and call a national newspaper.

That might change, however, if, for instance, the noise had been going on for some time and you felt that the police might need evidence. Or if it hadn't been the first time.

Also how did the Guardian have the incident number before they contacted to police.

It would have been given to the person making the call to the police. It's hardly difficult to work out, is it?

But the neighbour's motivation is utterly irrelevant, given the existence of the tape and corroboration from independent witnesses, and indeed that Johnson hasn't denied it.

EnidButton · 22/06/2019 13:31

The neighbour said they recorded the altercation from inside their flat out of concern for Symonds

Suuurrrre you did. That's definitely the reason you recorded...

I would too and I'd sell it but own it ffs. As if that wasn't their intention from the moment they picked up their phone.

EnidButton · 22/06/2019 13:32

To clarify I'd only sell it after knowing no-one had been assaulted.

Kez200 · 22/06/2019 13:57

From what people have said, it wouldn't have been sold. Presumably given.

tatkin · 22/06/2019 14:20
