C section mummy’s ~ dissolvable stitches scratching

Hi all

Just wondering if anyone else who’s had a section, and had dissolvable stitches, has experienced any problems with a tail end of the stitch sticking out? I had my lovely little boy 3 weeks ago and my section wound has healed but where one of my stitches has been tied off it’s been left around 1cm long. This didn’t bother me until a few days ago when I asked my DH to have a look as it felt sore. Turns out the stitch end has cut my belly where it’s rubbed against it, luckily above my section scar!! I’m worried now it will get infected as it’s difficult to get enough air to it to get it healed! Any advice would be great x

I'm not a doctor or a nurse, but I have had stitches several times and I have cut the end off in a similar situation to no ill effect. However do check with your midwife first if you want to.

I had it with second c section. I pulled the bits that didn't dissolve out with tweezers. Probably not medically recommended though!

Yes I had this. Nurse snipped it closer to the skin for me.
For some reason my body always seems to reject disposable stitches and they work their way out rather then dissolve them.

I pulled the end of mine out. They took a while to go and had a mild infection at some point. The GP pulled it and it wasn't quite ready then. So a little while later, I pulled it and a couple of cms came out.

Not a C-section but I had dissolvable stitches for appendectomy a few months ago and the ends didn’t dissolve and were sticking out. I snipped them as close to the skin as I could which stopped them irritating me and they fell out a few days later

Not a c section but from keyhole surgery. I had little tails of stitches sticking out after 2 weeks the scar had healed. I just gently pulled and they came out easily

My dissolvable stitches didn't dissolve, after 14 days I snipped them & pulled them out, gave the area a good wash with salt water & kept it clean.
