How well do we know our kids

Chatting with another mum about our children's friendship group over past couple of years. It's very rare any of the parents chat so it was interesting. Struck me just how different our perspective was.

Eg, she revealed that her son had been bullied or mistreated by another child last year. My son had told me it completely the other way round.

She talked about how some other children in the group had been badly affected by divorce, yet I feel that her son is really struggling to cope with his parents separation. To me more obviously so than some others. No judgment from me on that. My own DC have had sad moments about my marriage ending. I think it would be odd to think they wouldn't find it sad.

My son recently confessed to having been mean to some other kids. He had been part of a group making mean jokes about someone being fat. I think I'm realistic about his behaviour.
But this mum also thinks she is realistic - but had no clue.

I don't have any particular point, just pondering. The whole conversation left me thinking how little objectivity we have as parents.
