Mine was Creep by Radiohead. I thought I was so angsty and tortured

Grin

My niece is currently heartbroken and playing Lewis Capaldi on a loop.

Hah! I was just coming on to say Janice Ian's 'At Seventeen' too. Another oldie here!

Morticiaismystyleicon · 19/06/2019 22:36

My Immortal by Evanescence.

StillSmallVoice · 19/06/2019 22:36

Seeline - snap! We are obviously very old. Actually, the song on that album I relate to now was the one which went 'I don't want to ride the milk train anymore, I'll go to bed at nine, and waken with the dawn'.

YesQueen · 19/06/2019 22:37

Loads!
Garbage - only happy when it rains
Skunk anansie - hedonism
No doubt - don't speak
The verve - bitter sweet symphony

BarryBarryTaylor · 19/06/2019 22:39

Creep without a doubt was teenage anthem for all people of a certain age Smile

Also most Nirvana, Nine Inch Nails, and Incubus.

Quintella · 19/06/2019 22:39

Babes in Toyland's Fontanelle album was the soundtrack to my teenage rage.

agirlhasnonameX · 19/06/2019 22:41

Metallica- Ronnie
Linkin Park- Crawling
Guns N roses- November Rain
The Cranberries -My Favourite Game
Nirvana- Lithium

Some great reminders of songs on this thread that I haven't heard in ages!

Quintella · 19/06/2019 22:41

My most angsty song weirdly was janis ian with the song "17"

Such a melancholic song. I remember thinking I'd never heard a song quite like that before.

agirlhasnonameX · 19/06/2019 22:41

Oh and freak on a leash OBV

Quintella · 19/06/2019 22:41

Mazzy Star - Fade Into You

Such a brilliant song.

TransFannyUltrasound · 19/06/2019 22:41

Whole albums:

Guns n’ Roses - Appetite for destruction

Def Leppard - Hysteria

Wonder Stuff - Eight legged groove machine

Got me through my GCSEs. Sort of. Home life was not fun. I was a hormonal depressed mess.

crosstalk · 19/06/2019 22:43

Otis Redding - Sitting on the Dock of the Bay
Nina Simone - Ne me quitte pas (which I think is Jacques Brel)
Communards - Don't leave me this way

Another thread for cheery uppy songs?

NCbilliontimes · 19/06/2019 22:51

Leave R.E.M, even now I bang that up full driving round at work when I’m in a bad mood.

ShannonHoon · 19/06/2019 22:59

RoRosmama · 19/06/2019 23:22

Quintella · 19/06/2019 23:32

Love Layne Staley's powerful voice.

BettyUnderswoob · 19/06/2019 23:50

I know It’s Over - The Smiths
I want You - Elvis Costello

I know there were more... !

Moosiclover · 19/06/2019 23:54

Waiting for the Night - Depeche Mode (in fact the entire Violator album, I have it on vinyl and I don’t think it left my turntable for about a year!)

ThankYouDebbie · 19/06/2019 23:58

Can't believe we haven't had more Angst Queen Tori Amos.

Crucify is the one that came to mind first but probably most of the Little Earthquakes album really.

BillywigSting · 20/06/2019 00:24

Jagged little pill is an absolute masterpiece.

I was a Catholic school girl and Forgiven hit hard

BillywigSting · 20/06/2019 00:27

But also the entire album fallen by evanescence and the wall by pink Floyd, with a bit of Linkin park thrown in for extra points

PinkieTuscadero · 20/06/2019 00:29

I could never get the whole Alanis Morrisette thing. She always seemed to me inauthentic, a musician created by music biz execs.

GodDammitAmy · 20/06/2019 00:33

Siamese Twins by The Cure with the lights turned off.

worriermum300 · 20/06/2019 06:58

Agreed that Creep is the ultimate teenage angst anthem.

Jagged Little Pill coincided with 17-18 year old anorexic me being dumped by someone who’d messed me around for ages. Cue a lot of wailing on my room with it on repeat.

Also, I’m Only Happy When it Rains by Garbage and the whole of Blur’s Great Escape album - there are a lot of melancholy/cynical songs on that and I really felt like it fitted me at the time.

Nancy Boy by Placebo and Girls and Boys by Blur we’re total anthems for my group of friends - not for angst purposes but because we were the theatrical, gender bending, not quite straight group at school and we related.
