My family are messy and I’m constantly tidying but I’ve just had an epiphany

I’m messy too! And a lot of the junk around our house is mine. I’m a childminder and whilst it’s all used and what I would call ‘clean mess’, our house would be so much clearer and more spacious if it wasn’t for me and my job.

It’s true that my family are quite messy but I don’t have as much as a moral high ground as I thought. Unfortunately I feel it the most though as mess really affects my mental health.

Anyone else in a similar position got any tips?

No tips because our house is messy too. Reason being, I have filled every cupboard with my stuff & nobody has anywhere to put anything. I need a massive clear out. Confused

I recently had a week off and used the time to catch up with life and get the house in order. It lasted about five day because I just surface tidied. It’s underlying junk, same as you that’s the problem.

I understand as a childminder you need various extra things compared to many, but could you look at streamlining what you do actually need and use? and then decent storage to hide it away for what remains

Paperwork and documentation, try and store out of sight when not needed and all together

Toys - reduce the bulk to a smaller variety of each type. Try and move more outside if possible ie art and crafts, keep small selection indoors and open up that category to chalking outside, water painting on pavements, easels in new shed. Movement and similar all outside. Actually a new small shed or outdoor cupboard just for this would be ideal.

You’re absolutely right, I do need to cut down especially now our own children are getting older and don’t really play with toys very much.

About two years ago I thinner out the resources but clearly I need to do it again. Some sort of garden storage is a good idea. Will talk to Dh.

I’m a massive procrastinator and always mid project with various jobs. I’m a nightmare. 🙈
