The smear test doesn't actually test for as normal cells anymore?!

I've just had my results from my smear and the results say that I don't have HPV so that means it's unlikely I would have abnormal cells.

Is this the routine now? It doesn't fill me with confidence.

Yeah, I was confused too. Mine said I did have an abnormal cells but didn't have HPV (or the other way round, I don't remember) but that it was fine and I should just go to my next routine smear as usual Confused

Really odd

Yeah, I had one recently. My nurse said they only test the cells now if you are positive for HPV. It worried me a bit as well

But I DID have abnormal cells without HPV. I had treatment for it. Does that mean my treatment was unnecessary?

Sunshineandshowers81 · 19/06/2019 16:28

I have had abnormal cells but I don't have hpv

Puddingsmummy · 19/06/2019 16:44

Is there anything we can do about it? I've had abnormal cells before but never had hpv so feel uneasy about leaving it.

The nurse should have explained it all prior to doing your smear. Very bad for her not to have explained it properly.

Ah, that's why I needed treatment. I had high grade changes. That makes sense.

Thanks @Peterpiperpickedwrong !
