Moving to a bed

Hey! I have a 2 year old who is great at climbing and I'm worried about her being able to get out if her cot and potentially hurt herself. When should I be moving her to a toddler bed? She still seems so young!!

Hi OP! She should be fine in a toddler bed. They're generally quite low and usually have little bars to stop them rolling out of bed. But if you're worried you can always put a few pillows down to make it a softer fall.

Is it possible to take one side off your cot? That's often a good halfway house to a toddler bed as a cot on its lowest setting is usually very close to the floor and toddlers tend to feel 'safe' in a familiar environment.

Anyone else got any advice?

We have moved our just turned 2 year old to a proper bed (to free up cot for impending arrival!) and he has taken to it much better than expected. Only fallen out a handful of times (we put a spare mattress on the floor anticipating this!) and he is so good sleeping through then waiting in the morning for us to go and tell him he can get out and play with his toys! We made it quite exciting for him, telling him he was a big boy now and it's his big boy bed, he's very proud of it! Go for it, they adapt better than you think

Thank you so much! Think we will take the side off and see how we get on.

I had to put my 16 month old into a bed as he climbed out of his cot.

We had a toddler bed and transferred him into that from his cot when he was asleep, and he was fine. Put the cot mattress next to the toddler bed in case he fell out.

I did this with all three of my DC, didn't have a cot bed.
