Mug count

I’m currently returning the kitchen.

Sorted out the cupboards yesterday.

There are two of us in the house

44 mugs.

Most of which have a special memory, or were a gift so don’t want to loose.

I use about 3 of them! One tea, one coffee, one herbal.

Anyone else have a mug collection?

I haven't counted. I'd hazard a guess at about 70. Perhaps more. Again, each one means something. I did a cull when we moved a couple of years ago.

cricketmum84 · 19/06/2019 06:13

8! My DH is ruthless and will throw old ones away if we gain new ones.

Probably about 8 but they all mismatch and mean something. It's worse with glasses. I tried last year to get rid to replace with matching glasses. My DH pointed out we would break them but I figured if we bought easily replaceable ones it wouldn't matter. But apparently he couldn't agree to loose why as they all mean something 😳

He was right though. I got a next voucher for my birthday. Bought a matching set of wine and water glasses. In 5 months we had two wine glasses left 😫

Tadpoletofrog · 19/06/2019 06:38

70! Wow. Lots of cupboard space needed!

We have culled it down to about 20. That’s okay, right?

None of them match, we have the following:

I love Ny
Cow mug
Frog mug
Doctor who, various designs
Plain green
Plain blue
Stylish dog mug
Picalliy circus mug
Eailing broadbean mug
London Underground map
Fortean times mug
Uni cow mug
Uni drinking purple Ronnie mug
Our dog photo mug
Our dog photo mug 2

Amongst others...

I’m feeling ok now as we only have about 20. All gifts or special occasion mugs and can’t lose any of them. We have 5 more than fit in our cupboard so they huddle underneath like teenagers in a bus shelter.

Pascha · 19/06/2019 06:47

I count 18, I'm sure there are a couple more lurking. I use 3 for tea and most of the rest are more suited to coffee or soup. DH has a tin mug which he uses 90% of the time. There are probably only 5 which never get used.

A set of 8 beach scene/row of beach hut mugs;
A set of 4 nautical themed mugs;
3 with an image of St Ives Harbour that were a gift from my parents (when I moved into my first flat - one each for the 3 of us);
Husband’s GoT mug;
Husband’s Star Wars colour change mug (part of a leaving present);
Valentine’s Mr & Mrs mug set;
Wedding gift Mr & Mrs mug set;
Couple of thermal travel mugs;
Half a dozen mugs from my late mum’s house that remind me of her but aren’t in the cupboard and don’t get used at the moment.

So, probably 30 mugs, and we (2 of us) use at least 6-8 a day as DH tends to use a fresh mug for each cup of coffee/tea.

BarbaraofSevillle · 19/06/2019 08:37

There are also two of us and we have a similar number of mugs.

As long as they all fit on the 'mug shelf' in the cupboard, I'm happy, but they currently don't so we also need a cull. Day to day we use about half a dozen of them - we have a dishwasher so need enough to last until it goes on but the dozens we have are ridiculous.

Fuck knows where they all come from. I think we've been bought some as gifts, which is the sort of thing I'd really rather people didn't bother doing because we're a financially solvent 40 something couple, so I think we can manage to get our own mugs when we need them.

It would also be nice to be able to choose my own set of nice mugs, but I feel I can't do that because other people are always buying me sets of mugs that I don't like and don't particularly want.

freshasthebrightbluesky · 19/06/2019 09:12

I had a beach hut mug that dh dropped and smashed to a million pieces. I now have a BFG pint mug. Dh has a Landrover pint mug and an Eeyore mug for coffee. We have 3 photo mugs including one of those magic reveal ones, a glass mug, 2 metal ones, a Sudoku mug, 2 aeroplane mugs from air museums, 2 cadbury Easter Egg mugs, a football shaped mug, another Eeyore mug and a piglet mug, a Mr & Mrs pair of mugs, a wide coffee cup and an espresso cup. Out of all that lot, we use 3 on a regular basis and just 2 others for guests. The rest just stay in the cupboard!

Tadpoletofrog · 19/06/2019 09:40

I keep seeing lovely mugs that I want.. but I can’t with my current collection..

Feel free to show off your mugs..!

We've probably got around 20.
Only I use them (DH and DD only drink cold drinks) all gifts or sentimental attachment.
I've still got a 'love you mummy' mug from DD first Mother's Day - 11 years ago. I made a big fuss about always wanting to have my morning coffee in it but I'd don't like it any more - too chunky. But the bloody thing won't break!

My mug collection is only exceeded by my plastic cup collection though. Merlin refillables, souvenir cups from days out, unicorn water bottles, slushy things with enormous built in straws that don't fit on shelves. I bin them every now and again but DD invariably finds them when she's putting the rubbish out. Gaah!

H2OH20Everywhere · 19/06/2019 09:49

Possibly 30. About ten in the kitchen but I reckon I have at least 20 in a box somewhere, that I brought up when my mother moved.

Jellyshoeswithdiamonds · 19/06/2019 09:52

Far too many to countBlush. I have bought dh two for father's day as well, bonkers. I have two lots of stacking mugs on the units ... two!!

When I refurbed our kitchen I finally ditched loads, chipped/crazed or those easter egg mugs.

The Christmas mugs are put away with the decorations, only to make room.

I suppose there are worse addictions than buying mugs Grin

BelulahBlanca · 19/06/2019 09:54

Purple Ronnie! I haven’t thought about that in a long time. My sister used to have a Purple Ronnie mug that came with a. Easter Egg and some stationery I thought it was the height of coolness at the time!

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 19/06/2019 10:36

About 20, most of them carrying precious memories. Also a Pete's Eats pint mug for the first coffee of the day.
