Donut peaches - where did they suddenly cone from?

Those flat peaches are utterly delicious and I'm addicted. But WHERE did they come from? They've had them in my local supermarket for the last few years but I don't think they existed before that. I never had them when I was a child, never saw them in the shops or on my travels in my 20s.

Who invented them? Why did someone decide to make peaches flat? And why are they only availible in June/July when you can get nornal peaches all year round?

I’ve seen them around longer than that. You might be surprised to hear they’ve been around hundreds of years Shock. Originated in China

I knew them as flat peaches before the term donut peach became popular.

I like Saturn peach more though, so I’m adopting that. My son will be chuffed, he loves space and peaches :o
