Term time holidays

Have you? Would you?

Thinking of tagging two days onto school holidays next year so we can afford to go away for two weeks.

Both me and DH were brought up with parents who would never have contemplated it so if feels very bad. But I can't see how it will really affect their education.

Kids would be yr1 and yr3

I have. Every year since reception. Stopped at secondary though may take her out two days before February half term next year as flights are ridiculously cheap.

I am in July.
My 2 dcs go to schools less than a mile apart. Usually we have 3rd week in July off. DS breaks up 12th July.
Dd school have decided to change to a neighbouring counties holiday dates which means she should be at school till 19th.
We booked our holiday last year before they announced this change.
To rebook for following week will cost £450 MOrE so we've decided to risk the fine.

We have a number of times. Including this year when DD in year 12. OH is an ex-teacher don’t see the issue. Also been lucky to have never been fined.

I have and had it authorised as DH had to work during the school holidays. No regrets (and I won't even pretend it was educational... One was Disneyland, the other Skiing).

It's the second to last day of school here and we are flying out today. Children are 16 and 14 but don't have anything vital this last two days so we hardly gave it a second thought.

Not in the UK though so no fines. And actually one of their teachers left for his holiday yesterday.

Once, for a wedding in 14 years of schooling. I would not do it simply to save money, we went to places we could afford eg Wales

LolaSmiles · 18/06/2019 20:29

One or two days in primary or KS3 at the side of a holiday wouldn't strike me as a problem as a teacher (you may not get then approved but we have students who have 'holiday - not approved' code in the register).

The only time staff have an issue generally is when it's a crucial year/period of time and some go for 2 weeks because it's cheaper and then complain if their child doesn't do as well on a topic/report or they expect staff to do unpaid 1-1 tutoring to catch their DC up.

Our eldest in only in year 2 but we've done it every year for the past three years.

And for more than a few days.

My kids have (so far) been well behaved and hard working at school and are making good progress. So I have no concerns about taking them out.

If they were struggling in school and being there as much as possible was likely to make a difference then I wouldn't take them out.
