I'm so impressed with myself. Made the Mickey/Minnie one a few weeks ago, and made the Toy Story one today. The Mickey was an old duvet cover, but I bought the Toy Story duvet cover this morning from Primark. It's far cheaper than buying fabric.

Ooh how fabulous OP - did you buy the pattern (if so which one is it!) or create it yourself?

I ask because I am desperate to have a go at making a simple shift dress like that, probably starting by practising with duvet covers! Sadly my mum's sewing machine is 50 years old and the pedal has just burnt out on me, it's a 4 pin Frister Rossman and I can't replace it. Sad

ShitStrategy · 18/06/2019 22:10

Whoops sorry, I see you've already posted the pattern! Duh I'm blind.

bagsofbats · 18/06/2019 22:11

For trousers, as long as what you want is pretty simple you could use an existing pair of trousers as a pattern just add a seam allowance.

I've done this for floaty summer trousers with a draw string waist and for pus with elastic or eradicated ribbing for waist and ankle cuffs.

bagsofbats · 18/06/2019 22:12

*pjs not pus!

Why don’t kids get taught sewing in school anymore? (Boys and girls?)

GettickledGETTICKLEDbyspiders · 18/06/2019 22:16

So future generations can make things like this, saving money, recycling and it looks cool!

GiggleMcDimples · 18/06/2019 22:23

Thank you Elephant! Grin

GettickledGETTICKLEDbyspiders well I am teaching them in one secondary school and that is why one of our project is the pyjama trousers as it it is unisex. And we teach them along side about the 6Rs

ShitStrategy aww no!! I had a very very old hand wound singer, it's over 120 years old. It was pretty good in fairness but upgraded a few months back to a Janome, it was £100 in hobbycraft. It's pretty simple but does what I need for now.

Yours are lovely.

ShitStrategy · 18/06/2019 22:34

Really, thanks Elephant I'll go take a look! I've posted on a vintage sewing machine FB page as well, in the vain hope that someone will have one kicking around.

Villanellesproudmum I don't mind standing out, I wear Irregular choice shoes so I'm used to people staring at me and giving me odd looks. GrinGrinGrin life's too short to blend in.

You are so inventive - better sign up for sewing bee!

I was at a Swedish craft fair last weekend and I saw children's dresses made out of traditional tea towels that looked very cute. Like these ...
