Unprotected sex on day of ovulation!!

Oh no oh no.

DD is 3 months old and I haven't started any contraception since giving birth (very very silly I know). DP and I have DTD maybe once or twice since and have used condoms each time, until last night when we got a bit carried away. Long story short after having unprotected sex last night I've gone onto my period tracker app only to see that today is my estimated ovulation!! As in I was ovulating when we DTD at the early hours of this morning!! I can't take MAP now as there's no point if I've already ovulated and I'm absolutely bricking it!! The next two weeks are going to feel like an age!!

Sorry, why can't you take the MAP?

blueberry25 · 18/06/2019 09:09

I think MAP still works.. it stops the egg from attaching to the lining of your womb and it is unlikely that it's attached yet as it takes hours to travel down into the right place

You may not have ovulated yet. What about getting the coil? Do you really want another baby?

Course you can take emergency contraception.

blueberry25 · 18/06/2019 09:11

And also just because you may have released an egg it takes a while for sperm to travel to the Fallopian tubes and you only did it last night. You should go and get the MAP this morning and it should work fine

TrixieFranklin · 18/06/2019 09:12

It still works regardless of where you are in your cycle.

Illberidingshotgun · 18/06/2019 09:12

Get an appt to see your GP asap. Alternatively go to your local sexual health clinic. You need to discuss options with a professional. If the MAP would be ineffective after ovulation then an IUD can be fitted.

radibounce · 18/06/2019 09:19

Ah right, I was always lead to believe that MAP during and after ovulation was ineffective. Will go to the pharmacy ASAP

MAP is far from 100% effective even before ovulation (voice of experience here) but it can still work if you've ovulated by preventing fertilisation and stopping implantation if fertilisation does occur. Worth a try I'd have thought!

YouWhoNeverArrived · 18/06/2019 12:14

Get a copper coil inserted today - vastly reduces the risk of a fertilised egg implanting. Take MAP as well, asap. Good luck.

whatswithtodaytoday · 18/06/2019 12:16

If your baby is only three months old I doubt your cycle is back to being regular anyway. Go get the MAP.
