Anyone awake? Dog having puppies!

Good evening everyone! Hopefully most people are able to get some decent sleep unlike muggins here whose dog has decided to have puppies tonight! Must be the full moon as she's 4 days early by all counts! She's only first stage labour so puffing and panting but not much else so it'll be a while yet before we have pups, but she won't settle unless I'm next to her bed... So I'm now sat on another dog bed, wrapped in balnkets, texting the only other person who's up at this time of night.. My DGM... Though even she's about to go to bed🙄 So keep me company please! In between checking on the dog and trying to snooze!! :)

Aw! I'm up feeling anxious so I'll definitely be checking in on your lovely pup updates!

How many are due? What breed is your dog? Can we have a pic?Grin

Good luck, wishing for a safe delivery 🐶

I'm awake, not slept at all yet and worrying about functioning in the morning.

I'm thinking it's the full moon affecting me also.

What breed is your dog? 🐶

HUZZAH212 · 18/06/2019 01:54

Puppies!!! We have 5wk old kittens due to spayed rescue cat not being spayed.... They're awesome even if we sat up a whole night expecting more kittens (worrying about more kittens/problems with kittens/cat having problems with kittens 😯)... Not a puppy derail! We NEED to see the Puppies!!! I can recall my mum's friend (midwife) saying it'll be easy! She said it was more stressful than delivering a baby 😂

WalksWithDinosaurs · 18/06/2019 01:54

She is a west highland terrier, and hopefully 5 according to the scan, but until they all arrive it's hard to know for sure, no pics atm as we are keeping it warm and dark in the dining room to help keep her calm, but I'll post pics once the pups arrive!
Knowing my luck this will be braxton hicks for dogs! But at least she's settled for now meaning I'm fluff to catch a nap on the sofa for a bit before I check on her again, at least I can hear her if she starts up again! I'll give it till 4, then wake mum as relief watch, then call my friend at 8 if she's still in the early stages!! Lord knows how long this'll take!!
Thank you for the good wishes! Quite possibly going to need them as its her first litter!!

SeaToSki · 18/06/2019 01:59

Ive never been around when puppies are being born, is it exciting or a bit worrying or both?

WomenUnited · 18/06/2019 02:00

Puppy pics with morning coffee would be swell!

Good luck Dinosaurs'Terrier Bear

monsieurmarius · 18/06/2019 02:14

Good luck! Hope all goes well

TruthOnTrial · 18/06/2019 03:01

What 'type' is she?

Some types have extremely long first stage prompting breeders to be heading off to vets and ending in cs, but for others a short first stage is more usual.

Is this your/her first litter?

Totur · 18/06/2019 03:09

Only time I witnessed puppies being born was when my Mum tore to the vets with her Shih Tzu (a first time Mummy dog) because she got the feeling the dog wasn't progressing. Dog was at my feet in passenger seat and I was bawling my eyes out between the dog crying and the baby puppies being born. Rushed her into the vets where she gave birth to 2 more puppies (4 in total!). Dog was kept in overnight for observation as she was weak I think (long time ago), but they all did really well.

Totur · 18/06/2019 03:17

I think the vet gave the dog pain relief and fluids overnight - in fairness - us humans like a bit of gas and air lol. He Also looked after the pups - don't know whether they were incubated or left with the Mum, I can't remember. They were fine after their short overnight and came home - all of them reared successfully by their mum.

WalksWithDinosaurs · 18/06/2019 04:11

Still puffing, but not progressing further at this point! Had more fun and games keeping our 13year old dog in the sitting room and out of PregDogs way! Ah well - it's mums turn now!!

Yes- it's her first litter, and their first stage timings vary, I remember my first dog - still a westie 20 odd years ago used to be so quick off the bat! She had 2 litters, and the second time we went to the supermarket, only gone 1.30, was perfectly settled when we left, and we came home to 6 pups! The first time she actually did things a bit slower and gave us some warning!!

Hopefully no CS!! Not opposed to vet trip to check on things if they take too long, but prefer avoiding CS!!

Thanks for the well wishes, I'll update again once I've had a bit of real sleep while my mum keeps an eye on the PregDog :)

Have her spayed. Too many dogs without homes.

NotSoThinLizzy · 18/06/2019 08:07

pupp · 18/06/2019 14:53

Hope all is well. You will have your hands full but it would be lovely to see pics if you get the chance!

NotSoThinLizzy · 18/06/2019 17:38

How did it go? Would love to see pics when you can.

TruthOnTrial · 18/06/2019 18:00

Really hope all has gone well, and that shes not still at the panting/puffing and digging stage!

Bluerussian · 18/06/2019 18:02

This is very exciting. You're a canine midwife, op!
Dying to know how many pups she's had and that all is well.
