Does anyone work in a bank?

Have googled to no avail. I got married last month and our house solicitor from our sale of old house has sent me the remaining funds via cheque today, and has assumed I have changed my have when I havent. I have already waited 3 months for him to send the funds to me so really hoping to avoid asking for another cheque. If i take the cheque in with my marriage certificate and driving licence will they accept it? It's such a palava. I decided for professional reasons to keep my maiden name, and to maybe double barrel in the future if the need takes me! I just get links on "how to cash a cheque" when i type it in the banks search bar. Yes he shouldnt have assumed - i wont make a fuss over it... just frustrated now!

Have you a joint account? I've paid cheques misnamed like that into the joint using the machine (tellers always refuse) and they've all gone through.

I have paid in a cheque in my married name to an account in my maiden name and visa versa. Was not a problem at all when I showed them my passport and marriage certificate.
