saying it "sub starn tial". It is irritating me. How do you pronounce substantial?
I say a hard 'a' sound, don't know if it's because I'm from Up North, but I've never heard it pronounced as "sub starn tial"

I might start saying it the way judge Rinder does.

WhiteLightTrainWreck · 17/06/2019 14:30

I don't understand where the r comes from but I might start pronouncing it that way though like @DobbyTheHouseElk

steppemum · 17/06/2019 14:34

I have an RP accent, but not SO strong, and I say a short a.

like a normal person

hmm.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 17/06/2019 15:47

I’m RP. But don’t add ‘r’. Although I will be now!!

I wonder if his accent is to appeal to USA fans, it’s quite particular.

I fancy Judge Rinder.

There - I've said it.
